According to the Why Buy? page ( http://www.greencine.com/static/buygreencine.jsp ), Greencine has five distribution centers. Wow, this is news to me. When did this happen? Can someone explain why these shipping centers are not being used to ship DVDs for rental then, since the help page ( http://www.greencine.com/static/RentalHelp.jsp/#renthelp14 ) sure implies that Greencine has only one distribution center.

Hmmm... I guess you didn't notice this exhaustive discussion on the matter.... read crossja's post there, which is confirmed by GC staffers.

I just hope none of the distribution centers are in Maryland, in case I actually buy GC discs. Then I won't get charged sales tax, right? Hopefully there's a close out-of-state one, like PA, NJ or Virginia...

I would imagine that if you really dug into it, you might find that GC doesn't really own the centers, they just contracted with a drop-shipper or two. Which is a fine way for them to do it, actually. No inventory overhead, but still high availability. No big payroll increase. No real estate costs. If they have multiple shippers, they conceivably could have the system send the orders to whichever one has the lowest prices that day. And it looks like GC is handling returns directly in San Fran, so they still maintain customer service.

Whoa, how am I supposed to know that the discussion on distro centers would be in a thread titled "Addiction and Overnight Shipping"? Hmmm, okay. I see. Good luck, Greencine.
