Until three or four months ago--I'm not certain when it stopped--each time I emailed dvdrequest@greencine.com I received a quick courteous reply: Anything from "What a good idea!" to "No, you missed it, we DO have that" to "No, not for now, anyway." I doubt I've used it a dozen times.

Now requests get bring dead silence. I dug through the spam folder at my internet provider before writing this, just in case, but no, nothing. Have you discontinued the request line? Is someone on a long, long leave? Could this be a GC job opening?

I don't recall all my requests since it stopped. Most I glean from the Chronicle's Pink Section or Tuesday DVD anouncements, or similarly from The Onion or Premiere. Rental is the issue, since sale sources abound. One recent unanswered was "Last Quarter" (Kagen no tsuki), directed by Kan Nagi, 2004, 7.2 rating at imdb and on sale from Amazon the day of release last month. Another, startling, considering its mainstream status and cast, despite the sour reviews, is "Marylin Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing and Charm School." Rental exists in no small part, as we all know, for items that weren't worth the trip to a theater or a 17 buck purchase.

thanks

I have never received a response from dvdrequest@gc. In fact, I don't think any of the titles I've requested have even been added to the catalog as a request, much less ordered. Granted, I stopped requesting titles a long time ago, so maybe there was a brief period where they actualy replied.

Oh, but that's really my only complaint. Other than that I'm a happy GC camper.

As I said above, for a long while I received a response to literally every dvd request, usually within 24 hours. I still have four in my In Box, and know that I deleted a few others. That prompt courtesy I imagined was an instance of the difference between GC and the more mainstream NetFlix.

But seriously, GC, I do need a job and have a 2005 Master of Library and Information Science degree but no paid experience. GC is nothing if not a fee-based library. For 25000 or so a year, depending on the length of the work week, I could quickly learn to answer these dvd requests and more, whatever.

Way, way back, I made a query much like this, and GC invited me to send a resume. At the time I passed, because I had yet to make the rounds of the Public Libraries. But in 2006 I'm dead serious. Besides the skills that the degree signifies, Internet and database searching, cataloging, a little xhtml, and more, I've seen and cataloged in FileMaker 5200+ films since late '89, 372 (thanks in part to GC) so far in '06, I keep up, as time allows, with the Cahiers du cinema, I attend the SFIFF religiously and the PFA as well as my night work hours allow, and my current volunteer work at Oakland Public Library involves historical still photos. Just need to earn the magic figure 22000 with medical, or maybe 25000 without, to get out of the USPS.

My email address is in your files, if you'd like to let me know to whom to send my resume. But again, to be strictly honest, my only paid experience to date is with the USPS. I obtained the degree to escape that.

I find the lack of responce annoying too- in the past I got reponces every time. In fact I've harrased them several times about the rest of the Maison Ikkoku box sets. You'd think they'd give me a responce if only to shut me up. :-)

I don't use it very often, but it's my understanding that no response means "no". The last time I suggested something I got a reply 4 days later letting me know the title was now available for request.

We can assure everyone that your emails sent to dvdrequest@greencine.com are read on a daily basis. We do our best to satisfy every request. Even if you do not receive a response, your requests are being heard. In the future we will do our best to respond to your requests.

Dynastar, Maison Ikkoku Vol. 6 & Vol. 7 are in the catalog as request titles, and we will do our best to make those available for rental in the near future.
