Just noticed the new feature and am really excited about it! Hope it works out. I just quick returned my first movie, that was put in the post last night. Now I feel less pressured to watch my movies the same day I get them in the mail. Whew!

Any info on how it works? I'm tempted to click it to see if it offers an explanation, but I don't want to be a jerk and 'quick return' something I haven't yet seen. I looked on the help page, and found nothing.

hopefully I've inspired this change. To make a long story short I've been emailing Greencine the last several days regarding the status of account. I returned all 3 of the dvds I rented yet they claimed that they only received 2 of them. I asked them how is that possible when I returned those dvds on the same day and exactly the same time. I suspect they are delibertly processing returns slowly so they don't have to ship out new dvds. In my case they emailed me in the morning that they received 2 of the 3 dvds I returned. So im thinking okay... they are at least going to ship 2 new dvds from my queue soon which are avaliable. WRONG. They haven't shipped anything for the last 2 days! This is becoming a nightmare. No customer support and slower than molasses service.

I'm worried whether this "Quick Return" will be abused. For example, suppose GC sent out 3 discs to me on Monday and I claim to have quick-returned all three on Tuesday. Does it mean that GC will send out another 3 discs to me right away, and so I can potentially hold 6 discs over the weekend?

The instructions on "Quick Return" page is not exactly clear. It says:

"If you have already mailed back your DVD, you may confirm your Quick Return. The next disc on your queue will be sent to you within the next 2 days, guaranteed!"

Does it mean that there is a minimum wait-period of two days when I use Quick Return? Consider the following case:
- GC sent out a disc to me on Monday
- I clicked Quick Return for the disc on Tuesday
- GC send out next disc to me on Thursday?

But if I wait until Thursday morning before clicking Quick Return, shouldn't the next disc go out on Thursday evening, instead of Saturday?

Don't break your hand patting yourself on the back. This particular feature has been suggested repeatedly in the last threr or four years.

Yay. I am also excited about the new feature. I thought it might be coming. It doesn't help when things get stuck coming to me, but it's still very exciting and I've quick returned my two DVDs. Thanks GreenCine for trying to help us all get our DVDs more quickly. It's been a drag lately dealing with all the delays and emails to customer service - you're probably excited to get less emails too :)

Dragon, you have a response to your query on another thread - hope you saw it. You've been helped. Apologies for any delay. In the future, please take care not to lock your queue, also, to ensure you get the next available disc sent to you.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback already, we're sure you'll have more feedback as we go along with Quick Returns. ;-)

As for abuse, well we think we've taken some precautions to keep that from happening, namely, that people cannot do another round of quick return requests before the first set of "quick returned" discs are still out. That and the fact that we trust all of you ;-) should alleviate concerns of abuse while also alleviate frustrations about the US Snail, er, Mail service.

YES! Proof positive that this business is trying to focus on customer needs.

Awesome job GC. I hope this works out and doesn't affect your operating cost.

Unless your return gets back to us on Tuesday or Wednesday (in which case we'll ship you out a DVD the day your return is receieved) the next disc will automatically be shipped out on Thursday.

Hopefully if you've shipped your disc back on Tuesday, it's already gotten back to us by the time you've hit "quick return" Thursday evening. If the disc still hasn't arrive at our facility by Saturday, you'll be automatically shipped a disc Saturday.

So, it's up to you on when you want to initiate the quick return (initiating the day that you return or waiting 2 days). I'd suggest waiting 2 days to "quick return," since the disc should arrive in 2-4 days anyway, and it keeps a good continuity for returns to be available for quick returns processing in the future.

The real question is: Irregardless of when the disc was actually returned, what is there to stop some other person with low moral fiber from clicking "Quick Return" the day after GC sent out the disc to me... I meant the other person?

I think the way it works is a disc is sent when it is recevied or 2 days after you click 'quick return', whichever come first. So if your disc is received on Wednesday (i.e. if USPS is on some sort of performance drug), a new disc should be sent on Wednesday irrespective of what 'quick return' does.

Having say that I'd like to report some recording break mail time I've experienced recently. I've mailed the disc Saturday from San Francisco and it reached GC on Monday!!! There are also several other instances with a mail time of 2 days on the new new envelope. For me GC is largely cured!

Still the 'quick return' should be a great feature for those who regularly need 2+ days of mail time.

That would be a logical interpretation based on GC's instructions. But that's now how Quick Return actually works.

I have a disc ("Patlabor the movie") sent out to me on Oct 18th. I mailed it back yesterday, Oct 23rd. This morning I clicked the "Quick Return" button. It says quick return for this DVD was initiated Oct 18th (not 24th). Then this afternoon GC just sent out a new disc to me.

So the minimum waiting period seems to be starting from the day GC sent out the disc to me. This sounds more fair to me. Although to cut down on potential abuse, this minumum waiting period should probably be increased to 3 or 4 days.

Tungwaiyip - great to hear about the 2 day delivery times! Thanks for clearing that up for NLee, you wrote that explanation out much more succinctly than I did.

NLee, is your concern that someone will keep their quick returned item or abuse the quick return system? What I can say about that is, until we actually receive the items that you've "quick returned," we will not make any other items in your out list available for quick return processing. Hopefully customers will want faster returns over hanging onto a disc, or the ability to use quick returns for their next shipment if need be rather than initiating the quick return before actually returning it!

Hope this helps!

I had the same somewhat confusing experience, but the disc I sent back yesterday should arrive tomorrow anyway. In the meantime, "Hitler's Lost Sub" is on its way and hopefully I will receive it this time (since the postal employee/neighbor/squirrels/racoons/wild turkeys/deer/quail kept the last copy of said disc that was sent).

That's actually the way it should be. IIRC FGaipa mentioned on the boards that the USPS actually carries mail on Sundays, they just don't deliver it. Frankly, getting anything longer than 2 days of delivery time is unacceptable. It's quite sad when we're having to be celebratory over adequacy.

Well, I'm really excited about this change. So far so good. Kudos for getting it up there peeps.

Belgand, dude, you seem to have a hard time saying anything positive on these boards. Some of us are happy. Some of us feel like 2 day shipping time separate even from quick returns is pretty darned good and shows they're trying to improve things. I think it's more than adequate. Each to their own I guess. But I guess you like seeing the negative in everything. Enough already.

Thanks GC.

Wait, I'm still lost. So if you click 'quick return,' no dvd is sent until your dvds have been received?

Or is it that you can use quick return for one set of discs, but can't use it again until those quick-returned discs have been received? That sounds fair. And much more logical than the former.

Does it apply to SLOTS or to a single dvd (ie, if you use quick return on one dvd, you can't use it again on the other two or whatever dvds you have out until that one dvd is received)?

I'm being unusually dense lately. *sigh*
