Yea, so why can we get an impeachment on lying to all to invade another country and butcher 20,000 people? Be strange times we live.

Okay, I am going back to my silly Japanese cartoons now. Sometimes, Excel makes more sense than the U.S. government.

republicans don't lie. they're daddy and when daddy keeps secrets, it's for the good of the family. democrats are mommy. mommy's head is all fuzzy. she doesn't know what's right or wrong so daddy has to keep a close eye on her.

that's why we all have to band together and dismiss from office any democrat who gets behind the eight ball. somewhere out there there is a republican daddy figure who will put that eight ball in the pocket, even if it's the wrong time to sink the eight ball. even if it means losing the game. it's shooting for the big goal that's important.

look back, there's bill clinton, impeached for lying about a blow job. look forward, and there's gray davis, governor of california, is he about to be recalled because of stock market and energy market manipulation that was totally beyond his control? two moderate democrats.

dubya on the other hand has apparently lied in the state of the union address about the reasons we just went to war. dubya's administration has not only fiddled as the economy has burned, they probably helped the a-holes who royally screwed california. but they're daddy and daddy's just fine.

I love your logic. If the US economy goes to hell its Bush's fault. If Cal's economy goes to hell its somehow out of Davis' control. hmmmm...republican + fuck up = evil, democrat + fuck up = blame closest republican. Sounds like passing the buck to me.

Gentlemen, gentleman, I say! Let us retire to the "Off Topic" room for brandy and cigars and then we will solve the problems of our dear nations and of the world. This being San Franciso, there are all ready some women there and they have a head start - let us haste before they smoke up the Cubans!

Hear hear! Also, we rarely get all Big Brotherish on you folks, but we do ask that you watch your language in these here discussion groups. Not that it makes me blush mind you, but we are trying to keep this a family section (dysfunctional family) but family nonetheless. ;-) But if you want to go off topic and debate politics and then warn people some cussing may be involved (as it invariably is when discussing politics, hee), then that's okay.

Thanks!

C

PS: Btw, I thought from reading DP's posting that he was criticizing both Demos and Reublicans pretty equally there. But maybe I misread it. Anyway, let's play nice!

did i hear EXCEL??? when is PUNI PUNI POEMI coming out?

dpowers/dh22- the economy is fine. i still have blank checks so i KNOW i have money in the bank.

larbeck- you can program??? can you program my VCR to play DVD's?

as for a shift in the message boards.... it's just a jump to the left and then a step to the right. sort of like how it becomes geo-political in here.

many people are just feeling the dismay over availability as GC does in this expanding internet rental market and ventilating. new members come in and want it NOW. some lack the finesse that others have.

I agree, exceedingly. Patience is a virtue, not had by most it seems. I really don't understand what all the hoopla is about. Put movies in your queue, GC ships something, you watch it, you send it back. It is a farely simple process that people seem to be screwing up in droves.

A had this conversation with a friend of mine and she is having a similar problem. But I think the stem of her problem is that she locks her queue. If the movie at the top her list is on a long wait, then good luck getting anything. Then she monitors her queue everyday just so she can calculate which movie is the most likely to be available and she adjusts the queue accordingly. I say let the queue be free. If you have a series you're watching, just put one disc at a time. Then you wont have to worry about what order they come in.

Bingo. As I've said before, in different words, the reason that GC has a queue is to send you discs out of order. If the first few aren't available, they skip down to the next one that is. I understand that they try their best to send them in order. But, that's so completely obvious, it boggles my mind when people start demanding discs be sent NOW. If they could send discs the second that the Rent button was clicked on, they wouldn't need a queue. Am I wrong?

Last I heard, they have not yet found an English voice actress to ruin yet. And for those of you who don't know, Jessica Calvello was the voice of Excel Excel until episode 14 when she had to be replaced by Larissa Wolcott because the fasttalkingroughandsqueaky vocal work did a BIG number on her vocal cords.

Only in HP/3000 Pascal, Z80 assembly and some other dead computer languages. And C, if you pay me enough.

Politics, yeah.... um, anyway, back to porn...

[sorry for not keeping up with the conversation, but I was gone all weekend, and doesn't it figure that I'd miss the good stuff!]

A couple of days ago, RBrunette posted:

You are correct,I am not an animation fan. After looking at the cover art of the 50 DVD's I am interested in the number of them that are listed as "adults only". Is this the new porn? Before you ask; yes, I do like porn.

Me too! Here's my idea: I think NetFlix should offer porn. The rental through mail system is a perfect option for folks who are shy about renting porn in person, and offering porn would give NetFlix an edge over their competition; Blockbuster and WalMart are notoriously wholesome, and the smaller services don't have the resources to withstand the attacks from the anti-porn folks.

I don't think GreenCine should carry common porn; the highbrow porn that they carry (including hentai) is subtle enough to fly under the radar of morality watchdogs. If they started offering more obvious porn, they would risk coming under fire for it and potentially losing the cool porn they do carry.

I've found two services that do offer adult titles: DVD Barn and Quikflix. They both charge an additional fee for the privilege, and require that you be a member for a month before you're eligible. Quikflix has the additional requirement that a signed agreement be faxed to them first. Of course you can join an exclusively porn service, but there're two drawbacks: (1) you have to go to a porn site and endure all the pop-up windows and spam e-mails that come with it, and (2) who needs that much porn?

Research? That was from memory! I can happily discuss a diverse array of topics, from Tarkovsky's days at VGIK to Seijun Suzuki's Lupin movie (Legend of Babylon). Now that I think of it, perhaps those two items aren't quite that far apart...

I am not entirely certain. It used to be Musicals, although I've somewhat remedied that in the past year. I am fortunate enough to have a fairly good memory.

Regardless, the locals will have a chance to test their movie knowledge next week at the first GC Pub Quiz. This is not an attempt to coyly avoid explanation. More details will follow. Honest.

I saw a lot more than anime under the new to greencine catagory. And try to find something to post about besides complaining that Greencine has too many "Japanese Cartoons". You were the last one to post a thread about this too. Thanks :)

I have to admit, I've yet to actually *watch* any hentai -- so I can't say I'm an expert. But I do enjoy looking at the covers of the boxes when a new shipment arrives. I guess my research would consist of that plus the internet. I have seen some live-action porn in my time, but only watch them for the articles.
