Did you all get the Chris Rock movie 'Head of State'? I never saw it on the coming soon or new release lists, but it came out last week.
Which brings me to my next point, there seems to be some sort of problem with the search feature. When I type "Chris Rock" into the search box, I get a list of 5 Chris Rock titles. When I click on View All Results, I get a somewhat longer list, all of which are his HBO show, SNL discs, or stand-up specials. No feature films show up on the list.
But, when I go to a movie I know he was in (for example, Lethal Weapon 4), and click on the more... link to see the entire cast, there he is. I click on his name and I get the full list of all the movies he's been in.
Is this expected behavior? I haven't had the opportunity to test this on any other actors, so I don't know if it's something peculiar to one name or something that happens all the time.
Any thoughts? |

| When you enter "Chris Rock" you are 1st shown the titles that contain "Chris Rock" like "The Best of SNL with Chris Rock". Look below those titles and you will see the actor list and when you hit that link you will get a list of films with him listed as a cast member. |

to embellish Dleonard's accurate response... Thankfully, the search results are acting exactly the way that they should. The Chris Rock search (including "View All Results") gives you all of the results where his name appears in the title (although you'll notice that Bigger & Blacker does not include his name, there is a second "invisible" title in our database that adds his name).
If you return to the "Top 5 Movie Title Matches" page, you'll notice a "Top 5 Actor Matches" link at the bottom. This will take you to the full listing of his film appearances (at least those that are available on DVD).

yes GC has head of state... i was just hunting for it myself.
^_^ i wrote a little filemaker routine that generates greencine searches from movies in my home database! i can click a button in FM to see the GC listing, it's nice, it even chops off trailing the's and la's such. thanks to whomever wrote the search interface over there for doing it with URIs.
will the gussied search engine be able to rearrange words, or ignore things like "the" and "of" and such troublesome things? |

will the gussied search engine be able to... I am told things. Things that I believe. Some things I do not believe. I am reluctant to speculate. I can only honestly answer, "Maybe." |

| How about a search that also tells you to which remove the film and its stars are from Kevin Bacon? Ya know: 'Head of State, Chris Rock, also in Such and Such with So and So who was in Whatever with Kevin Bacon.' Are we talkin' now? Yeah? |

Ah, but the oracle is so fast: http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/
The Oracle says: Chris Rock has a Bacon number of 2.
Chris Rock was in Nurse Betty (2000) with Pruitt Taylor Vince Pruitt Taylor Vince was in Trapped (2002) with Kevin Bacon

you can use the the IMDb for that but it doesn't tell you whether there's a DVD, true enough. |

Actually, in the upper right corner there is info on DVD availability (though I don't think it will indicate if there is an out of print version).

i know how to use imdb but for example, if i want to study how morricone matched music to film then i have to go somewhere else and one by one copy the list from there into here you can search by actor, director, just add in composer it's not that hard
the date sort thing is nice too for if you want to watch someone's work chronologically - sure, you can do it without the sort, but it takes longer - and sort features aren't hard to program in
