I came accross this new online movie rental site today from visiting one of my favorite sites www.kungfucinema.com
they are called NicheFlix thier specialty is Multi-Region DVD's and D-VHS ..( i personlly couldn't care less about the d-vhs ..but the thought of multi-region dvd's , i start to salivate)

They also have a Forum for members to talk in ..but only a couple post so far.. they must have just opened for business..but by reading one of thier post i found out on the site right now they only have about 1500 titles listed and they said with about that same amount more to add.So not really even in the ballpark of selection such as GC.

BUT the fact that they carry or should i say specialize in mutli-region dvd's is definitely a big plus.

Since i am most into Asian films such as Horror,Fantasy and especially martial arts movies i checked out the selection..again not as many to choose from yet..but it seems they have all the Celestial Region 3 Remastered Shaw Bros. movies that i have been dying to see.

Also i noticed quite a few goodies such as El Topo ,The Holy Mountain ,Santa Sangre ,Delicatessen ,The Twilight Samurai ,Tsui Hark's The Blade ,Drunken Monkey,Purple Storm, etc.

I am no way trying to advertise for this other site..i am only mentioning this here to let GC know that there is alot of interest in MULTI-REGION DVD's .. I for one have no problem playing multi-region dvd's and im sure alot of other people dont either. Just as GC has just added the new ADULT title section (very nice btw)..if GC wants to step it up to the next level and be truley the ONLY soure "for people who like to watch" i think obtaining Multi-Region Dvd's is the next logical step.

BTW this site is located in Carmel, IN and they are a little pricey ($24.99 per month for 3 DVDs Out at a Time) ..but i guess for those that REALLY want to watch movies that are other wise with a "buy only" option ..it's not too bad.

Please GC at least consider it.. maybe send out a email asking current members how many of them would actually be interested in multi-region dvd's ..see if it's worth it.

GC still is and will always be my NO.1 choice for Movies!

ThankS.

Ooh, first Master and Commander and now this! How I love to see Darwin's theories put into action! Since there's already a well established thread about non-R1 DVDs, how about other creative suggestions to guide GreenCine's evolution?

How about renting VCDs?
Cons - everyone knows it's VHS quality.
Pros - will play in many existing DVD players without the worry of Region codes, and there are a lot of titles available.

How about opening a GreenCine Store?
In addition to selling GC brand merchandise, a GC store/gift shop can sell things like -
A) out of print DVDs
B) movie books and manga
C) movie music CDs
D) universal remotes
E) leftover Georgy for Governor thong underpants
F) Twizzlers (or was it Red Vines?)
G) Porno with class!
The point is not so much to make a big profit selling stuff (though it's probably a good idea during the holiday season) but to make GreenCine more of a Destination Website to lure non-members. That area would have to be open and easily accessible to all visitors, not just GC members.

Other Destination Website ideas...

More links to make GreenCine the FIRST STOP for all of a film buff's needs, kinda like the YAHOO of cinemaphilia. For example, when you look at a title on GreenCine, there are links to that title in the IMDB and at a retailer like Amazon. How convenient and intuitive and seamless! I think you can make an arrangement to get a cut if you channel sales to Amazon, and GreenCine wouldn't have to carry any inventory of for-sale DVDs. It doesn't have to be Amazon, either...

On-site online games! A JAVA applet game where players navigate animated snails carrying little shiny discs around a maze in the shape of a US map. A MMORPG where avatars go to movie theaters or sit around on the couch, eating popcorn and watching movies...

AAAGGGGHHHH! No, no, no, no, NO! That would be my worst nightmare. I just cannot imagine that happening. It would be like my nice little food co-op turning into Yet Another Wal-Mart Superstore. There we would have to gather the villagers with axes and torches.

I only had snails once at a San Franciso Steakhouse (chain). They were nice but I didn't expect them to be so salty, consider what it does to them when they are alive. But not enough garlic. Never enough garlic, dammit - except that wonderful roasted garlic at Romero's! It is 95% garlic - but roasted! I'm hungry.

GC you got even more competition .. the original topic of this post was about nicheflix which specialized in multi-region dvds .. (which i hope GC gets into real quick)this new site cinflix is marketing themselves as such ..

CINFLIX.com
...your ticket to a world of movies!

"Your rental site for Asian and Foriegn DVDs. We carry the Hottest titles from Korea, Hong Kong, India and Japan! We also carry European titles and hard to find cinema!"

They forgot to mention one BIG thing in thier brief statement... they carry MULTI-REGION DVD's!

AGAIN ..i am not here to advertise or promote this site..as i stated when i posted about nicheflix .. im just simply posting this to let GC know ..that there are other sites trying to take your "alternative online dvd rental" title from you.

GC pretty much has that title for good..the only thing that can securely lock it into place is GC also offering multi-region dvd's ..which from what i read..you guys are already looking into it.

I really hope so..cause i really dont want to have to join another site just to get my multi-region fix..i would LOVE for GC to be my #1 stop for all my movie viewing needs.

again ..i was really impressed with the IVL remastered dvd's of all those glorious SHAW BROS. dvd's.

cinflix even has more then nicheflix has.

BTW cinflix is based in Denver, Colorado.

If they were in CA .. i would of jumped all over that!

any updates...

You might find some worthwhile comments here. The February-2004 target is still accurate (although it could change).
