In Tokyo!, three visionary directors (Michel Gondry, Leos Carax and Bong Joon-ho) come together for an omnibus triptych examining the nature of one unforgettable city as it’s shaped by the disparate people who live, work (and run amok) inside an enormous, constantly evolving, densely populated Japanese megalopolis — the enchanting and inimitable Tokyo. To celebrate the premiere of Tokyo!, GreenCine is pleased to give away 2 pairs of tickets for the opening week screenings at the Landmark Theaters in San Francisco (exact location TBD) and Los Angeles (Nuart Theater in Santa Monica), March 20th - March 26th.  Click on for details on how to enter.

Coraline_Logo.jpgFrom Henry Selick, visionary director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and based on Neil Gaiman's international best-selling book, comes Coraline, a spectacular stop-motion animated adventure – the first to be originally filmed in 3D! Coraline Jones (Dakota Fanning) is bored in her new home until she finds a secret door and discovers an alternate version of her life on the other side. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life and the people in it – only much better. But when this seemingly perfect world turns dangerous, and her other parents (including her Other Mother voiced by Teri Hatcher) try to trap her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to escape this increasingly perilous world – and save her family.

And now GreenCine and Focus Features are teaming up for a Coraline contest! Enter to win a fun "Goodie Bag" full of exclusive Coraline items.  [Click below for all the details!]

murnaubook2.jpg Along with the addition of the fantabulous Murnau, Borzage and Fox set out this week from, of course, Fox, GreenCine is generously giving out the handsome coffee table books that accompanied the DVDs. These two exclusive books showcase rare, unpublished photos from the careers of both filmmakers, one of which focuses solely on Murnau's lost film 4 Devils. That book also includes production stills, artist portraits, and excerpts from the original script. The Murnau, Borzage, and Fox book provides a small biography on each filmmaker and a bit of history regarding all the productions included in the box set. The book has stunning on-set stills and examines the influence of each filmmaker on the other and the filmmakers' imprints on film history. Honestly, any film buff or anyone interested in film history will thrill about these discoveries, and the books can be yours if you're one of the two lucky winners of our new contest!

murnaubook1.jpg To enter, email contest@greencine.com and include your name, email address and, if you're a GreenCine member, your username in the email, and "Murnau Book Contest" in the subject header. Entries without all this information will not be considered. (You will not be added to a mailing list!). 2 winners will be selected at random from all valid entries. The deadline to enter is Tuesday, January 6. Winners will be notified by e-mail and announced in future editions of the GreenCine Dispatch newsletter.

uncounted GreenCine's Erin Donovan called the documentary Uncounted: The New Math of American Elections "a timely doc...diligently researched and deeply passionate," and in the Salem Monthly Shawn Estes wrote called the film "a horror movie - not in the Freddy Krueger way, but about how our country's democracy is in jeopardy." Adds DocumentaryFilms.net, Uncounted is "information dense and utterly shocking...Regarding this documentary simply as preaching to the choir is a disservice." And now, thanks to Earnhardt-Pirkle/Uncounted The Movie and GreenCine, we're giving you an opportunity to win the movie on DVD -- each copy signed by the filmmakers! - if you're one of the five lucky winners of our giveaway.

To enter, email contest@greencine.com and include your name, email address, mailing address, and, if you're a GreenCine member, your username in the email, and "Uncounted" in the subject header. Entries without all this information will not be considered. (You will not be added to a mailing list!). 5 winners will be selected at random from all valid entries. The deadline to enter is November 1st (just in time for election day). Winners will be notified by e-mail and announced in future editions of the GreenCine Dispatch newsletter.

Hamlet2_Poster.jpg Hamlet 2, which premiered at - and was the comedy smash of - the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, stars Steve Coogan as a failed  actor-turned worse-high-school-drama teacher who rallies his Tucson, AZ students as he conceives and stages a politically incorrect musical sequel to Shakespeare's Hamlet. The irreverent film's fine cast also includes Catherine Keener, Amy Poehler, David Arquette and Elisabeth Shue as herself.
