From Henry Selick, visionary director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and based on Neil Gaiman's international best-selling book, comes Coraline, a spectacular stop-motion animated adventure – the first to be originally filmed in 3D! Coraline Jones (Dakota Fanning) is bored in her new home until she finds a secret door and discovers an alternate version of her life on the other side. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life and the people in it – only much better. But when this seemingly perfect world turns dangerous, and her other parents (including her Other Mother voiced by Teri Hatcher) try to trap her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to escape this increasingly perilous world – and save her family.
And now GreenCine and Focus Features are teaming up for a Coraline contest! Enter to win a fun "Goodie Bag" full of exclusive Coraline items.
Three (3) first prize winners will receive these Coraline prize packs: Coraline Video Game (Wii or PS2 formats TBD), Coraline Book, Coraline Button Key, Coraline Prize Pack (each pack includes A Coraline Movie Tie in Book, Coraline Button set, Coraline Pen, Coraline T-shirt, Coraline Alphabet Collector Cards, and Coraline Bookmark; whew!).
To enter, email contest@greencine.com and include your name, email address, mailing address and, if you're a GreenCine member, your username in the email, and "Coraline" in the subject header. Entries without all this information will not be considered. (You will not be added to a mailing list!). 3 winners will be selected at random from all valid entries. The deadline to enter is Monday, February 16. Winners will be notified by e-mail and announced in future editions of the GreenCine Dispatch newsletter.

"Sweeping, big-budget war films are a tricky proposition in this day and age," writes Peter Gutierrez on Twitch, "if they aim for action/adventure audiences, they risk being perceived as glorifying combat. If they instead position themselves as serious-minded social/political dramas punctuated with the occasional bloody interlude, they're in danger of seeming preachy or heavy-handed. Which makes director Fyodor Bondarchuk's achievement in 9th Company, a 2005 release which is only now enjoying a R1 DVD bow, all the more impressive. Avoiding the temptation to over-sentimentalize his young Soviet soldiers or to demonize their Mujahideen adversaries, Bondarchuk nonetheless crafts a muscular film that skimps neither on pathos or action, but never feels like its indulging in them to make easy points.
