GreenCine is back in the holiday spirit with our 2010 Gift Guide, chock full of ideas to please your favorite cinephile, techie, or to tack on to your own wish list! Compiled from staff picks and writer contributions.
Right off the top, let us mention that GreenCine gift certificates are available and are good for 2 to up to 12 months of membership. Instead of buying a loved one just one DVD or book, give them the gift of access to our entire collection of over 25,000 ecclectic, independent, and hard-to-find titles.
Onto the goodies...
Part 1: Books and DVDs
"Holiday aficianados should check out Have Yourself a Movie Little Christmas (Limelight Editions, $16.99) by Alonso Duralde; it's an exhaustive look at just about every Christmas movie ever made (up until 2009), with an entire chapter dedicated to adaptations of Dickens' A Christmas Carol and another chapter dedicated to the worst offenders (Santa Claus Conquers the Martians). And, yes, even Die Hard is in here. It's witty, concise, and economically written, and it's guaranteed to boost your holiday spirits." -- Jeffrey M. Anderson
Any fan of laser filled love stories and video games (especially the 16 bit genre) will love the story of Scott Pilgrim. The movie stays very true to the series, but we feel that the series deserves a read by you and your nearest and dearest. The second-most traded comic book series in the GreenCine offices this year (first place was the Walking Dead)!
An exceptional companion piece to one of this year's most entertaining films, Inception: The Shooting Script, makes for a great gift for the screenwriter/aspiring filmmaker in your life. We love browsing through the storyboards and Nolan's sketches detailing each level of Inception's rich and detailed worlds-within-worlds.
"Destroy All Movies!!! (DAM!!!): Austin's Alamo Drafthouse (and Best Worst Movie talking head) Zack Carlson and filmmaker Bryan Connelly teamed up to create a breath-taking compendium of every appearance by a punk rockers (or new waver) in film history. Six years in the making, the collection also includes interviews with important punk mainstays Allison Anders, Richard Hell, Nick Zedd, Exene Cervenka, John Doe and hella more." -- Erin Donovan
Best staff quote on The Art of Hammer: The Official Poster Collection From the Archive of Hammer Films: "If I had a coffee table, I would totally get this awesome coffee table book!" It's clear we love Hammer Horror films (we wrote this primer on them) and we are positive this book will please the classic horror-lover in your life.
