New on DVD

This week brings a rich, full-bodied group of new DVD releases, with a slew of new films from Criterion, horror, drama, anime, a doc about quirky superhero wannabes, and even a few crappy movies for people who like crappy movies! Yes, there's something for everyone, so come on inside and take a look.

Re-issues and DVD first timers are the highlights of this week's relatively small batch of new releases, but this includes on eagerly awaited indie fave and a lost classic manhunt flick brought back to life by Criterion, plus Brad Pitt's first starring role, among several other goodies - plus a good array of anime. Enjoy!

Merry X-Mas and Happy Holidays to all! Not surprisingly, it'll be a slow couple of weeks for DVD releases, before picking up again 2nd week of January. Good time to catch up on films you've missed, plus a few good ones here.

THIS, friends, is the last great DVD releasing week for a few weeks, so enjoy it! We have somethig for fans of international cinema (and one of the world's great, unheralded masters), a long lost cult classic brought back to life by Criterion, two hot TV series, action, fantasy, anime, and (to quote Sullivan's Travels), "just a little bit of sex." Enjoy!

There's at least enough good DVDs out this week for each of the eight days of Hanukkah, and then some. Titles for children, a few choice anime releases, and then a few that are more appropriate for adults only. This week is superbad, and we mean that in a good way.

This may be a relatively quiet week for releases in quantity, but there's plenty of quality to be found - including the terrific and trippy anime feature Paprika and other international delights. Oh, and Thanksgiving may be over, but why not have some more pie, too.

The horror... the horror... of making Apocalypse Now. Just one of the many eagerly anticipated DVDs out this week (and one of two with Vietnam themes). Titles that run from light to heavy, just like the dishes at a Thanksgiving meal. We give thanks for 'em all, in this bountiful corncucopia of DVDs today. Enjoy!

Some great titles out this week, from an underseen British coming of age tale set in the 80s to a, well, British drama set a couple of centuries earlier, to an incredible German TV epic to a French biopic, alongside loads of anime and a lot more. Click on for more!
