Ellen Page was the best actress in 2006

Ellen Page in Hard Candy blows away the competition, but the Oscars wouldn't touch that movie in a million years.

Page rocks

Heck, I loved her in Mouth to Mouth (saw it at a film fest last year) but that one hasn't even rec'd a release. Ditto Willby Wonderful (you can rent that here, we got it from Film Movement.) She'll get another chance for an award, though, methinks. In a sense it's cool to have some older actresses vying for this award again after it's been mostly young 'uns taking it home in recent years. (the Halle Berrys and Gwyneth Paltrows and so on.)

I love Judi, but Helen is underrecognized.

They're both classy dames, though, aren't they?

Dench is convinced...

that she won't win. Let's see her proven wrong.

Tough

Tough choices here! All great actresses, all gave good performances... Streep's won so many times it's hard to really root for her at this point, but she was quite good in a surprisingly understated way. Who else should have been considered?

Tough is The Word

I think probably only four people saw this movie, but IMO Robin Wright Penn in "Sorry Haters" gave the best performance that I've ever seen by an actress in ANYTHING (well, maybe tied with Gena Rowlands in "Woman Under the Influence"). It's a tough, difficult movie and an even tougher performance.

I did like Ellen Page in "Hard Candy" too.

How about best hottie?

I know you're all thinking what I'm thinking. What's a Bond girl like Judi Dench doing at the Oscars? =)
