A DVD release timed no doubt with the release of Drew Barrymore's underrated roller derby/coming of age movie Whip It, the documentary Blood on the Flat Track: The Rise of the Rat City Rollergirls (out from Strand Releasing) would make for a good double-feature. "With its in-depth, everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach, Blood on the Flat Track certainly stands as an effective primer into the world of women's roller derby," writes David Nusair on ReelFilm, "as directors Lainy Bagwell and Lacey Leavitt offer up an all-encompassing look at the sport from the perspective of several Seattle-based athletes." It played at the Seattle Int'l Film Festival, where "the hometown crowd loved the film."
