Be Kind Rewind: Contest!
Submitted by underdog on February 8, 2008 - 12:58pm. Theatrical | ContestsWe here at GreenCine sometimes wish we could erase some of the films we carry and start over, but since they're DVDs and we're just being silly, better to let a visionary filmmaker imagine how this scenario might play out.
Be Kind Rewind is a one-of-a-kind comedy from the mind of writer/director Michel Gondry (The Science of Sleep, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). Jack Black stars as a loveable loser stuck in a life that's too small for his big dreams. But when he unintentionally erases all the tapes in a video store where his best friend works, he devises a plan to satisfy the store's few loyal customers by re-creating and re-filming every movie they decide to rent. Be Kind Rewind features a cast also featuring Mos Def, plus Danny Glover and Mia Farrow. The film is scheduled for a Feb 22, 2008 release. Now, thanks to the generosity of New Line Cinema and GreenCine, you can win a copy of the official soundtrack and some cool movie merchandise (items TBD), if you're one of five (5) lucky winners of GreenCine's latest contest.

Red Scream Films Contest!
Submitted by GreenCineStaff on January 18, 2008 - 4:42pm. Contests
Jim Hemphill wrote: "Once the carnage is unleashed, Prison of the Psychotic Damned delivers the goods. The gory set pieces are truly disturbing and convincing, and they're aided by flashes of the terminal's past that recall some of David Lynch's more frightening work in Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive. Williams and Kann use surreal, nightmarish imagery not as a substitute for content but as an expression of it, making their movie the rare low-budget terror flick that owes more to Bunuel than Friday the 13th."
And now Red Scream Films and GreenCine proudly announce a cool new contest. All you have to do is post at least twice on GreenCine's new Horror forum, sponsored by Red Scream, and you'll be automatically entered to win a copy of Prison of the Psychotic Damned on DVD.
Please send an email to contest@greencine.com, including your name, email address and your GreenCine username, and Red Scream Contestin the subject header. We'll scan the Horror boards to make sure you posted there, pick one winner and send you a note along with the DVD! Entries without all this information will not be considered. The deadline is January 31st. Winner will be notified by e-mail and announced in a future edition of the GreenCine Dispatch newsletter.

A Conversation with Adrienne Shelly
Submitted by GreenCineStaff on November 22, 2007 - 11:55pm. Festival | Articles | Independent | Interviews | Rent | ScreeningsBy Sean Axmaker

Adrienne Shelly blossomed onto the indie film scene with her 1989 screen debut in Hal Hartley's debut feature The Unbelievable Truth. In the succeeding years, the diminutive, red-headed actress proved to be very picky about her screen roles, appearing largely in idiosyncratic indie films and guest-starring in East Coast-based TV shows like Homicide and Law and Order. She had come from the stage and continued writing, directing, and performing numerous stage productions in the independent theater scene in New York, and she was making a name for herself as a film director.
(Note: Her final film as director, Waitress, is now out on DVD.)

In the Skies with Luc Besson and Rie Rasmussen
Submitted by GreenCineStaff on November 16, 2007 - 11:56pm. Video | Articles | Independent | International | Interviews | Rent | ScreeningsBy John Esther

Considering the films he has written, directed and/or produced, it's not easy to see why Luc Besson and his film, Angela-A, were invited to this year's Sundance Film Festival. This is the festival, after all, that's supposed to be about finding great new voices outside of - and, ideally, who challenge - the mainstream entertainment apparatus.
Besson's newest feature, Angela-A, is now available on DVD.

Joy Division joy! Control contest
Submitted by GreenCineStaff on October 26, 2007 - 3:24pm. Contests | Music
Attention Joy Division fans and music history buffs in general: Control, the new film about Ian Curtis, the enigmatic singer of Joy Division whose personal, professional, and romantic troubles led him to commit suicide at the age of 23, is garnering terrific reviews and high praise for the star, Sam Riley, who gives a "knockout" performance, says Peter Travers of Rolling Stone. "[Director Anton] Corbijn, shooting with a poet's eye in a harshly stunning black-and-white, cuts to the soul of Ian's life and music. You don't watch this movie, you live it."
And now, thanks to the generosity of GreenCine itself and our staff full of 80s music freaks, 2 lucky winners of our Joy Division contest will receive a copy of the brand spanking new 2-disc collector's edition of the classic Joy Division set, "Closer." Entrants should send an email to contest@greencine.com, including your name, email address and, if you're a GreenCine member, your username in the email, and Joy Divisionin the subject header. Entries without all this information will not be considered. (You will not be added to a mailing list!)
Winners will be selected at random from all valid entries. The deadline is Friday, November 16. Winners will be notified by e-mail and announced in future editions of the GreenCine Dispatch newsletter.
