I still don't know what it was, I hated the anime, but the message behind the movie - Family means EVERYTHING - got to me, and it was unjustly shafted at the box office. Plus, it's Emile Hirsch...and Emile ROCKS! Named my Best Picture of 2008.

This quirky comedy invaded my psyche and wouldn't let go from the very first time I saw it, six months before its theatrical release. Patrick Fugit is awesome here - and it deserves better than it got. Named my Best Picture of 2007.

This movie about dealing with death was magical in my eyes - I just named it my Best Picture of 2009 - and the score is positively spine-chillingly wonderful.

One of the most amazing films I've ever seen - winner of 6 Poppies awards in 2008, including Best Director for Gus Van Zant. Newcomer Gabe Nevins is mesmerizing in this role, and I hope he continues acting.

Saw this film FIVE times at the theater and countless times on DVD - the cinematography is astounding. The film made me fan of Zhang Yimou for LIFE.

Wonderfully hilarious comedy - haven't laughed that hard in YEARS. Joseph Gordon-Levitt can do NO wrong, IMHO...simply the most charming movie of 2009.

An overlooked gem that should have made Anton Yelchin a household name well before Star Trek and Terminator:Salvation. Unbelievably powerful performances all the way around; Yelchin carries the movie, but Chris Evans, Kristen Stewart, Diane Lane, and Donald Sutherland are equally fantastic.

I know critics hated it, but I grew up idolizing the Z-Boys, and this movie captures their essence in all it's glory. Star-making turn for Emile Hirsch, made me a Michael Angarano fan for LIFE. John Robinson and Victor Rasuk deserve better than they usually get credit for. A 70s skateboard fan's dream come true.

As a Trekker from Way Back, I was terrified this movie would be awful but JJ Abrams got it RIGHT. Superb casting, wonderful writing, incredible special effects. A true winner all the way around.
