Animal Rights
List creator: AKrizman

Description: Animal movies have an annoying tendency to anthropomorphize animals, creating the impression that it's only important to care about cute animals that talk. Nonetheless, here's my list of movies with positive animal rights messages.

Babe (1995)
12345678910
Don't eat pork. (because adorable talking pigs will miss their mommies)
Chicken Run (2000)
12345678910
Don't eat chicken. (because as the chicken herself says 'I don't want to be a pie... I don't like gravy')
Seriously, though, the provocative allegory of a chicken farm as a concentration camp is impressively daring.
The Muppet Movie (1979)
12345678910
Don't eat frog legs. (because frogs are lovable banjo-playing muppets that sing songs about rainbows)
Finding Nemo (Widescreen) (2003)
12345678910
Don't eat fish. Even the sharks are repentant.
The Fox and the Hound (1981)
12345678910
With this, Disney teaches an anti-hunting lesson to a generation of kids too young to remember 'Bambi'.
Fantastic Planet (1973)
12345678910
Explores our enigmatic relationship with companion animals: collared and captive, they are our adored playthings, free, they're pests to be exterminated.
Creature Comforts (1989)
12345678910
Not Rated
Hilarious short that interviews the inhabitants of a zoo, some of the dialogue is actually from interviews with residents of nursing homes.
Fast, Cheap, & Out of Control (1997)
12345678910
The 4 subjects each have a different relationship with animals; the topiary gardener sees just the form, the lion tamer sees only a tool, the robotics engineer sees a series of behaviors, and the molerat specialist sees a cog in a larger social organism.
No Telling (The Frankenstein Complex) (1991)
12345678910
A horror movie about animal experimentation. Didactic at times, but well-intentioned.
Planet of the Apes (1968)
12345678910
The primary social issues addressed in this movie are not animal-rights related: nuclear annihilation, slavery, and religion's relationship with science; but there is subtext regarding the ethics of animal experimentation.
Predator (Collector's Edition) (1987)
12345678910
It's doubtful that its criticism of hunting is intentional, but this movie's monster is a sportsman whose sole motivation for preying on weaker beings is for the trophies.

...and now for the counterpoint...
Demolition Man (1993)
12345678910
Vegetarians are oppressive weak commie sissy fags.
