I'm borrowing from other comments I've heard, but this is what Reloaded aspired to be. They pushed the limits of the Matrix universe in completely unique ways. Where else can you find collaborative efforts of so many terrific animators on one DVD?
Ninja Scroll (1986)

Vulgar at times? Yes. But not Hentai. This has terrific characters, professional animation and great action scenes. The character similarities with the Neo-Geo Samurai Showdown cart are interesting too.
Ghost in the Shell (1996)

You've seen it. We all know it practically by heart. Let's move on.
Akira (Special Edition) (1988)

Please see the above comment. You like one more than the other. So do I...
Blood: The Last Vampire (2001)

Out of the blue... WHAM! Never heard of it until moments before starting it. Short, but sweet. It's really a shame it this wasn't developed further. 420 friendly... :)
Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal Director's Cut (2003)

Damn you Greencine!!! I bought the entire series and the movies before I found you. Rurouni Kenshin beat up your son who beat up the honor roll student, but didn't kill him. Trust, then Betrayal... Got it?!?! 'Nuff said.
Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea (2000)
12345678910
Why, oh why do I keep getting sucked into buying the entire series before I realize there is a movie which summarizes everything? Please, tell me. Skip the series in favor of the movie, unless you have a lot of time on your hands.
Princess Mononoke (1997)
12345678910
What happens when big name Hollywood stars lend their voices to a full length Japanese anime feature? Not much, because you should still be listening to the Japanese track for the full effect! Minnie Driver? Puh-leees...
Spirited Away (2001)
12345678910
What would modern day Disney(tm) be like if Michael Eisner was born in... oh, let's say... Osaka? Look no further.
Metropolis (2001)
12345678910
Fritz Lang would be proud... *sniff
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1998)
12345678910
This of one of those out-of-left-field movies that you don't see coming. At least it was for me when I imported it. Based on Little Red Riding Hood, this one delivers in it's own slower paced way.
Vampire Hunter D (1985)

Don't let your fair weather fan friend tell you that the Y2K sequel "Bloodlust" is better. It isn't. This was ahead of it's time and the latter was Johnny-Come-Lately in terms of potential.
