Description:
Of course I don't hate horror films... It's just that they're so rarely done well. Here are some of the best.

Dead Ringers (Criterion Collection) (1988)
Psycological horror from the Canadian master.
Don't Look Now (1973)
The ultimate in atmospheric horror.
The Kingdom (Disc 1 of 2) (1994)
I won't watch the Stephen King remake--how can perfection be improved?
Spirits of the Dead (1968)
Not Rated
3 of the best Poe adaptations ever made. Top-notch directing from 3 big European directors.
Wendigo (2001)
A fairly new and under-rated indie scare (based on a Native American myth).
Ginger Snaps (2000)
Not Rated
Brilliant teen werewolf film for the 'Buffy' crowd.
Cure (1997)
Excellent Japanese film on par with Se7en or The Cell. Expository dialogue could use a little polish... otherwise, the film's fantastic.
Nang Nak (1999)
Not Rated
Suprisingly excellent ghost story from Thailand.
Wolfen (1981)
This should feel dated... but it's not, really. An excellent werewolf film.
The Others (2001)
Superior ghost story. It hits all the right notes.
The Shining (1980)
A classic that never loses it's punch.
Nadja (1994)
Vampires as Hal Hartley might write them. Peter Fonda as Dr. Van Helsing is to-die-for!
Jacob's Ladder (1990)
It still shocks me that this creative team produced an unforgetable horror film.
Angel Heart (1987)
There are a couple of moments of weak dialogue, but that's the *only* flaw to this film.
Dead of Night (1945)
Dead of Night - an oldie but a goodie.
Repulsion (1965)
I cannot watch this one when I'm by myself. Caution: intense claustrophobia is a likely side effect.
Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht (1979)
Excellent! But be sure to watch this film with subtitles, the English-language track stinks.
Rosemary's Baby (Criterion) (Disc 1 of 2) (1968)
Another classic that keeps on scaring.
28 Days Later (2002)
A wonderful twist on the 'Omega Man'/'I Am Legend' storyline.
Willard (2003)
Comedic horror as only Crispin can play it. Great DVD extras.
The Trouble with Harry (1955)
This dark comedy touches on psychological horror and is creepier than Psycho. My favorite Hitchcock!
Lost Highway (1997)
A Lynch film that rates as horror? But of course! Scarier than you'll want it to be...
The Sixth Sense (1999)
A popular hit that actually deserves its reputation.
Altered States (1980)
The best in Sci-Fi horror. Lovecraft wishes he could have made this movie.
What Lies Beneath (2000)
A surprisingly effective blockbuster screamer.
Bubba Ho-Tep (2002)
Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis as Elvis and JFK... fighting a zombie at their East Texas resthome!
