Ayane's High Kick (1996)
12345678910
Not Rated
  A surprizingly straight-forward story.
Blue Seed Perfect Collection Vol. 1: The Nightmare Begins (1995)
12345678910
Not Rated
A four disc series. The sequel was watchable.
Boys Over Flowers Vol. 1: Declaration of War (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
The animation is not tops, and the soundtrack soars melodramatically. But I'm totally hooked.
Brigadoon Vol. 1: Marin and Melan Blue (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
The animation style could fool you into thinking that this was a silly, lighthearted (standard) anime. There is much more depth to the characters than that, though. Action, and complexity.
Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 Vol. 1: Genesis (1998)
12345678910
A good series to start with, if you're new to watching anime
Cardcaptor Sakura Vol. 1 - The Clow (1998)
12345678910
I love this series, but there's just not enough Yue.
Crest of the Stars Vol. 1 - To The Stars (2001)
12345678910
In some ways, very "Star Trek DS9". I like the characters, though. It's more story than glamour.
Descendants of Darkness Vol. 1: Vampire's Lure (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
You'll probably finish watching the meager 4 discs, thinking, "What the...?" Still, it's got something.
Eight Clouds Rising (1992)
12345678910
Not Rated
It hits a lot of the anime cliches, but does a better job of it than many. It's also a good-looking anime, with better animation than standard. Wish there was more!
Vision of Escaflowne Vol. 1: Dragons & Destiny (2000)
12345678910
Not Rated
Still watching this one too... up to 7.
Neon Genesis Evangelion Collection 0:1 (1995)
12345678910
A frustrating ending, but still a favorite.
Fake (2000)
12345678910
Not Rated
Why do I like this silly guy-buddy-cop yaoi anime? It's mindlessly fun, and I like the character interactions, as cliche as they are.
Fruits Basket vol.1: A Great Transformation? (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
Watched the whole series in a weekend.
Gankutsuou Chapter 1: The Count of Monte Cristo (2004)
12345678910
Not Rated
The collage style is beautiful. The pacing & starting point on this retelling are very good; I am anxiously looking forward to more. Ah, anime -- you're almost guaranteed Shone Ai moments.
Generator Gawl vol. 1: Human Heart, Metal Soul (1998)
12345678910
Not Rated
For the Trekkie in me... .
Gokusen vol. 1: The Unteachables (2004)
12345678910
On first glance, the animation looks mid-quality, but the impression is deceiving. The character design is quite good, and the facial expressions...! This is also a fun but intelligent story. "Yankumi" is topping my list of fav characters, ever.
Haibane Renmei vol.1: New Feathers (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
The qualities of this show outweigh it's flaws. It has great characters -- wish it'd done more with them.
Haunted Junction - DVD Collection (Disc 1 of 2) (1997)
12345678910
Not Rated
Brace yourself to read fast! It grew on me.
His and Her Circumstances Vol. 1: Appearance of a Normal Life (1998)
12345678910
This series is smart, fast, and demands multiple viewings.
Howl's Moving Castle (2004)
12345678910
A good adaptation of the book, Miyazaki style. I reluctantly prefer the English voice cast.
Legend of Himiko Vol. 1: Sacred Fire (1999)
12345678910
Not Rated
OK, it's really basic, but I liked the outrageous character designs.
If I See You In My Dreams - OVA Series (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
Really sweet. No monster, mecha, or magic.
I'm Gonna Be An Angel Vol. 1: Earth Angel (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
Why is this one on my list? The show itself is... well, the jury is still out. But the theme song has really stuck in my head, and I think that there is something to all this cloying cuteness. Watch it warily, but -- give it a try.
Jubei-Chan the Ninja Girl: Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch Vol. 1 - A Legend Reborn (2000)
12345678910
Though not of the highest quality animation, this short series has style, a quirky humor, and an ending that actually resolves things! By the end of the series, I was sad to say goodbye to many of the characters.
Jubei-Chan 2 vol. 1: Resurrection (2005)
12345678910
Not Rated
I enjoyed the first Jubei series for it's ridiculousness. This continuation keeps the orig cast & adds Freesia, who is a little nuts.
Key The Metal Idol DVD Vol. 1 (1997)
12345678910
Not Rated
Unfortunately, the last disc is almost all talking... exhausting talking.
Kino's Journey Vol. 1: Idle Adventurer (2004)
12345678910
A beautifully animated anime that is deep in story, Kino no Tabi had me hooked from the first episode. Despite its disturbing narrative undercurrent, it has a wistful hope, and often had me laughing.
Kurogane Communications Vol. 1: Wasteland Paradise (1998)
12345678910
Not Rated
This is a short series with a solid ending.
Last Exile Vol. 1: First Move (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
This series develops very well, getting more interesting with every episode. The character design is gorgeous; the acting is superb. It's an adventure with excellent character development -- you will adore Claus and (especially) Lavie.
Love Hina Vol. 1: Moving In (2001)
12345678910
Not Rated
Wacky. I watch all the LH that I can find (Spring Movie is my favorite of all) because within a framework of repeated motif, it's full of the unexpected.
Millennium Actress (2001)
12345678910
This cleverly told story had me facinated. The details in the animation are very good.
Mirage of Blaze Vol. 1: The Summoning (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
I had to watch this one several times to get the names right. It tends to be confusing. But it held up to re-watching, and after the 2nd disc I started to love it. I'm a glutton for needless pain, and this anime contains some serious m-m UST.
NightWalker Vol. 1: Midnight Detective (2001)
12345678910
I especially like Guny, the little impy character.
Now and Then, Here and There vol.1: Discord and Doom (1999)
12345678910
Not Rated
We still talk about this series. It's a kick in the head.
Otogi Zoshi vol. 1: Legend of the Magatama (2005)
12345678910
Not Rated
The animation has a unique style, a use of sumi-e backgrounds and detail accuracy (watch the archery).
Paranoia Agent Vol. 1: Enter Lil' Slugger (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
Not as dementedly creepy as the preview (or the title menu) implied -- instead, this has a solid story, solid characters, and a bold style. It's dark and a little philosphical.
The Place Promised in Our Early Days (2004)
12345678910
Not Rated
Subtle but beautiful, in story, artwork, and music.
Planetes vol. 1 (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
This has my top criteria: complex and sympathetic characters, a believable future setting, larger story arcs covering the individual episodes. The ecological message isn't heavy-handed.
Princess Mononoke (1997)
12345678910
mystical... the ending is definitely not Hollywood. Myazaki's character designs are always striking, and the backgrounds in this movie are stunning. Plus, it has one of the best English voice casts ever.
Project Arms Vol. 1 The Claws That Catch (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
I'm impressed at how this series is improving. I'm on 8. It may not be brilliant, but you can count on action!
Rune Soldier Vol. 1: Enter the Klutz (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
This hits the mark (for me) that Slayers missed. Fun, with characters that are not the stock charas that they might seem to be.
RahXephon Vol. 1: Threshold (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
I bought this one. It's beautiful in *so* many ways. Warning: you'll have to think! Watch Evangelion first, though.
Rurouni Kenshin Vol. 1: The Legendary Swordsman (1997)
12345678910
I watched all of it, but I don't recommend anything beyond disc 15.
Sadamitsu the Destroyer Vol. 1: Crash Down (2001)
12345678910
Not Rated
I consider this one a surprize. It is a rather short series, which is too bad, because it looks good, has interesting characters, and it fun to watch. Humor/action-adventure.
Saiyuki Vol. 1: The Journey Begins (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
A fun series. It's obvious that they're having fun making it, too.
Samurai Deeper Kyo Vol. 1: The Demon Awakens (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
This has become a top favorite. Even the outtakes are funny. The Japanese voices are some of the sexiest out there... I think that Megumi Ogata is my hero. *And* it has a good resolution, a satisfying ending.
s-CRY-ed Vol. 1: The Lost Ground (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
X-Men, kinda... and a good sense of humor, and it gets more comlex as it develops
Spiral Vol. 1: What Are the Blade Children? (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
A mystery anime with good episode stories, and an interesting series arc.
Spirited Away (2001)
12345678910
It even has a good English voice cast.
Strawberry Eggs (I My Me!) Vol. 1: Make-Up Exam (2002)
12345678910
This is a character-driven show with plot-driven humor. I wish there was more of it.
Tokyo Godfathers (2003)
12345678910
This was a surprize! Great characters, wonderful humor, and just a little bit sad.
Twelve Kingdoms Vol. 1: Shoku (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
I'm waiting for MORE! Is there a man more lovely than King En?
Ushio & Tora Complete Collection (Disc 1 of 2) (2003)
12345678910
Not Rated
Called "a boy and his monster" -- and that's just what it is, with lots of humor and male rivalry. I LOVE this anime.
Vampire Hunter D (1985)
12345678910
Not Rated
The first anime I ever saw.
Voices of a Distant Star (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
You have to see the bonus short, "She and Her Cat".
Witch Hunter Robin Vol. 1: Arrival (2002)
12345678910
Not Rated
complex characters and an enigmatic plot... and a notable soundtrack
Knight Hunters, Weiss Kreuz Vol. 1: Dead Ringer (1998)
12345678910
  It's not brilliant, that's why it's a favorite.
Yu Yu Hakusho Vol. 1 - The Spirit Detective: Yusuke Lost Yusuke Found (1992)
12345678910
An easy entertainment. It gets repetative as a series, later on, but the start is fun.
