(Actually released in 1977-see IMDB) Director Andrzej Wajda explores the soul-draining repression of the Polish government through an ingenious plot involving a 1970's filmmaker's fascination with the plight of an exploited worker during the 1950's.
	Opening Night (1977)
One of my favorite films featuring a stunning performance by Gena Rowlands as a woman whose mental state has hit rock bottom. Cassavetes' direction in this film is, perhaps, even better than in "A Woman Under the Influence."
	Soldier of Orange (1978)
(Actually realeased in 1977-see IMDB) Director Paul Verhoeven shows us all shades of gray in depicting the collaborators, resistance fighters, sympathisizers, and neutral Dutch people's reaction to World War II.

I've never been a Woody Allen fan, but this film (and "Interiors") are probably my favorites of his.

Brilliant first-half portrait of a societal outcast (Bruno S.) with mental limitations trying to make his way in a hostile Berlin. The film's second half stumbles, though, as the case against greedy U.S. society ultimately fails.
	I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (1977)
) Exploitive tale of a young woman's mental problems. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Bibi Andersson as I watched her respectable performance in this otherwise mediocre film.

Nothing worked for me in this film. Successfully produced and directed to appeal to the masses.

Why audiences ate this fluff up I'll never know.
