12-year old Horror Flick List
List creator: Brockton
Created on: January 12, 2004 - 7:36 AM PST
Description: My twelve-year-old daughter wants to watch scary movies. I turned to the GC'ers for assistance. I appreciate all the good input. There are a few here that, well, I may let her age a couple years first.

Hellraiser (1987)
12345678910
My recollection is that this one's kinda nasty. Will probably put on her "later list".
Halloween (25th Anniversary Edition) (1978)
12345678910
We watched and enjoyed this one. There is a fairly graphic scene about midway through, however.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
12345678910
Maybe when she's 14 or 15. Good suggestion, though.
Child's Play (20th Anniversary Edition) (1988)
12345678910
This may do the trick. We'll give it a try.
Jaws (1975)
12345678910
We watched this last year and she loved it. A few good jumps, but she didn't find it particularly scary.
Alien Quadrilogy: Alien (1979)
12345678910
  Yes, absolutely. Aliens as well.
The Shining (1980)
12345678910
I think this one can wait. For what it's worth, it's her mother's favorite horror show.
Children of the Corn (1984)
12345678910
I recollection is that this one is kinda lame, but I wasn't twelve when I saw it. Will give it a try.
Poltergeist (1982)
12345678910
We watched this a couple years ago. Great stuff!
The Amityville Horror (1979)
12345678910
  Isn't this one kinda nasty?
The Thing (1982)
12345678910
A great double-bill with the 50s version. Old version: better script. New version: Better special effects, but not much else.
The Haunting (1963)
12345678910
Good recommendation. I love this one! Love the book, too. Hate the Catherine Z. Jones remake.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
12345678910
She liked this one a lot. Language alert: this movie has more effenheimers than most movies I've seen, other than dePalma's Scarface.
The Devil's Rain (1975)
12345678910
Ah, hmmm... O.K. It's now in my queue.
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
12345678910
Not Rated
This one scared me, and I was much older than twelve when I saw it. Didn't phase the kids at all. They thought it was cheesy.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
12345678910
Not Rated
She laughed during all the scary parts. And when the sheriff says: "They're dead. They're really messed up."
The Believers (1987)
12345678910
I wanted to see this when it first came out, and still haven't gotten around to it.
Dog Soldiers (2002)
12345678910
  Definitely added to the queue.
Joy Ride (2001)
12345678910
She's gonna have to wait awhile for this. Too much "did you f### her?" kind of chatter.
Session 9 (2001)
12345678910
Never heard of it, but it's in my queue now.
28 Days Later (2002)
12345678910
Screen-it counted over 60 effenheimers. A little too strong for my princess.
Creepshow (1982)
12345678910
I had forgotten about this one. Good suggestion.
The Hidden (1987)
12345678910
We'll give this one a spin...
Pet Sematary (1989)
12345678910
I think she'll really like this one.
Carrie (1976)
12345678910
This one gets deferred a couple years. Follow-up: O.K. we watched it. But I skipped over the part where Nancy Allen starts giving head to John Travolta.
May (2002)
12345678910
  This one too...
Jacob's Ladder (1990)
12345678910
Too grown up. I don't think she'd understand it.
The Wicker Man (Theatrical Version) (1974)
12345678910
A bit too much of a Saturnalia for a kid, I think. I like it a lot, however. And I love the fact that they secretly brought in a stunt-butt for Britt Ekland!
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (1989)
12345678910
I probably wouldn't show this to my daughter if she was 22 instead of 12. A very disturbing film.
Eight Legged Freaks (2002)
12345678910
We had a lot of fun with this one. Not scary, though.
Kingdom of the Spiders (1977)
12345678910
Hmmmm... I don't know if she's got the makings for a big William Shatner fan.
On Golden Pond (1981)
12345678910
We watched this one last year, 'cause she really likes Kate Hepburn. Not really that scary, unless you're an action movie freak.
Incubus (1965)
12345678910
Not Rated
A witchcraft movie in Esperanto starring William Shatner. I don't care if it sucks--I gotta see it.
Psycho (Special Edition) (1960)
12345678910
One of the first "scary" movies I showed her. She's seen more Hitchcock than any other 12-year-old I know.
Diabolique (Criterion Collection) (1954)
12345678910
She really liked this one. Got really indignant when she realized what the husband and his mistress were up to.
Wait Until Dark (1967)
12345678910
Not Rated
Awesome. She liked it so much, we watched it twice before returning it.
The Eye (2002)
12345678910
This sound cool, cheese and all...
The Changeling (1980)
12345678910
Already in my queue. Sounds good.
Rosemary's Baby (Criterion) (Disc 1 of 2) (1968)
12345678910
Most of the movie is O.K., but the "dream" scene where she gets raped by Satan is a bit much.
The Exorcist (Remastered) (1973)
12345678910
Uh, no, definitely not for my 12-year-old.
Prince of Darkness (1987)
12345678910
Sounds interesting, but Larbeck says it's too strong for my 12-year-old.
The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971)
12345678910
We saw this a couple years ago. A lot of fun, and 10 times better than the sequel.
Theatre of Blood (1973)
12345678910
Kind of a nastier riff on the Dr. Phibes theme. Will definitely get this one when it's actually available. Robert Morley's death a la Titus Andronicus is especially delicious.
The Fly/Return of the Fly (1958)
12345678910
Not Rated
  Count me in.
The Fly (1986)
12345678910
I heard about this one. Don't think I'm in any hurry to show it to my daughter.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
12345678910
Not Rated
Not just a great sci-fi/horror flick, but one of my all-time favorites in any genre.
The Hitcher (1986)
12345678910
This "cautionary tale" is my own contribution to the list. Ridiculous, but fun.
Return to Oz (1985)
12345678910
If only I had stumbled upon this a few years ago...
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
12345678910
zdislaw recommends the first 15 minutes.
Don't Look Now (1973)
12345678910
A little too soft-core for my precious daughter. I liked it a lot, however.
See discussion.
Ginger Snaps (2000)
12345678910
Not Rated
I'm going to watch this myself first before springing it on my princess.
Donnie Darko (2001)
12345678910
I rented this for her, but had to stop it when the graphic discussion of the sex lives of smurfs ensued.
Phenomena (Special Edition) (1984)
12345678910
Not Rated
This one is fun. Cheesy, but fun. And Jennifer Connelly is awefully cute.
