Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949)
Not Rated
One of the best ever baseball musicals. The other: 1958's "Damn Yankees." It's a treasure with Sinatra and Kelly.
The Jackie Robinson Story (1950)
Not Rated
One of the best of the many 1950s baseball biopics. When is "Fear Strikes Out" coming out on DVD?
Bang the Drum Slowly (1973)
Starring DeNiro. Film adaptation of the Mark Harris novel. Male weepie.
The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings (1976)
Baseball Musical. James Earl Jones' first baseball movie. Jones also starred in Kevin Costner's 1989 Field of Dreams, and he played a retired ballplayer in the 1993 film "The Sandlot"
The Bad News Bears (1976)
Walter Matthau, Tatum O'Neal. Remake in 2005 starring Billy Bob Thornton.
The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training (1977)

The Bad News Bears Go to Japan (1978)
Tony Curtis, Jackie Earle Haley. Bad News Bears #3. Enough already!
Squeeze Play (1981)
A bad start to a great decade for baseball films
The Natural (1984)
Film adaptation of the 1952 Bernard Malamud novel, with Robert Redford as the old rookie, with his bat "Wonderboy". One of the best baseball films ever made.
The Slugger's Wife (1985)
Kind of a Joe DiMaggio & Marilyn Monroe story. Oh well.
Bull Durham (Special Edition) (1988)
Costner #1. Susan Sarandon as one hot groupie. One of the best ever films about baseball.
Eight Men Out (1988)
Great film about the Chicago "Black Sox" scandal of 1919. Good performances by an ensemble of "brat pack" actors.
Stealing Home (1988)
Mark Harmon, Jodie Foster. Baseball a peripheral element of this so-so film.
Field of Dreams (1989)
"Build It and They Will Come" Classic. Costner #2. W.P. Kinsella 1982 novel "Shoeless Joe". James Earl Jones second baseball film. Father-son catch = kleenextime.
Major League (1989)
Charlie Sheen. Cleveland Indians. Comedy. Same formula as sequel.
Talent for the Game (1991)
  Haven't seen this one.
When It Was a Game (1991)

41-year old pitcher finishes career in Class D League in 1950s California. Good film.
A League of Their Own (1992)
My favorite. Tom Hanks, Madonna, Rosie, Geena Davis. Great film. Male weepie (even though "There's No Crying in Baseball!")

Major League 2 (1994)
Charlie Sheen. Cleveland Indians. Comedy. Same formula as first. Charlie's third baseball film (8 Men Out; Major League). They even made a Major League III....
Angels In the Outfield (1994)
Remake of the 1951 film by the same name. With Danny Glover. The team is the California Angels; The location is my Oakland Coliseum before they built Mt. Davis in 1996.
The Scout (1994)
Brendan Fraser and Albert Brooks (The Scout). Unremarkable comedy.
Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns - Nine Inning Set (Disc 1 of 10) (1994)
Not Rated
Classic 10-DVD documentary. Also check out "When It Was A Game" - a 3-volume set not available on Greencine, but available on DVD.
The Fan (1996)
Robert DeNiro's second baseball film. DeNiro plays the creepy fan. Wesley Snipes the Bonds-like superstar.
Soul of the Game (1996)
HBO TV Film about the Negro Leagues. Saw this when it first came out - good film.
The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg (1999)
Compelling, masterpiece documentary of famed Tiger slugger of the 1930s and 1940s. Important perspective on American Social History. If only baseball was a sport at the '36 Berlin Olympics!
For Love of the Game (1999)
Costner #3. Detroit Tigers. Haven't seen this one yet, to be honest.
Angels in the Infield (2000)
Not Rated
Sequel to the 1994 Disney film Angels in the Outfield. Haven't seen it.

When It Was a Game 3 (2000)
Not Rated
Made for ESPN documentary. Colorized home films. Part 3 of 3.
Hardball (2001)
Keanu Reeves meets the Bad News Bears? Not worth it, so give it a pass.
61* (2001)
Not Rated
Very good HBO TV biopic with Barry Pepper playing a convincing Roger Maris and Thomas Jane as Mickey Mantle
Lagaan (2001)
Not Rated
Indians versus the British in a game of cricket. Long movie, about cricket, not baseball. Lots and lots of on-screen cricket play.
Bottom of the Ninth (2002)
Good documentary about players and coaches for the 2001 Somerset Patriots, an independent minor league team for the New Jersey-based Atlantic League. Sparky Lyle and John "The Count" Montefusco are some of the coaches spotlighted in this short documentary.
The Rookie (2002)
Dennis Quaid plays the old rookie for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Mr. 3000 (2004)
