Calendar Girls (2003)
One of the calendar girls is seen knitting the afghan that she will later hold up in front of her body for her portrait. In the background, one woman winds a ball of yarn while another holds the hank for her to work from.
Lost in Translation (2003)
Scarlett J. shows her boyfriend a scarf still on bamboo knitting needles and asks him if he thinks it's done. She doesn't actually knit onscreen, though. (Any knitter knows her ennui could have been alleviated by a trip to the Noro studio...)
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)
What do you do when your psycho sister locks you in a room and serves you a rat for dinner? You knit, just like Joan C. does with her metal needles and dark wool yarn.
Birthday Girl (2001)
Nicole K. is shown knitting a black sweater with a red intarsia cross. The garment itself actually figures in the plot later in the film.
Mumford (1999)
Hope D.'s mother is a rigid woman who disapproves of her daughter's love life choices. Her old-fashioned beliefs are underscored by her knitting as she tsk-tsks away.
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Not Rated
"Jose brought up the blueprints for a new ranch house... I have this strange feeling that the blueprints and the knitting instructions got switched. I may be knitting a ranch house." - Holly Golightly
State and Main (2000)
Rebecca P. is seen knitting a sweater for her soon-to-be-dumped guy. She's just a small-town provincial girl, so she knits.
Chicago (2002)
Renee Z. is on trial for murder; her lawyer wants to present her as a loving homebody wife. So she knits while sitting in the witness stand.
The Simpsons: Season 4 (Disc 1 of 4) (1989)
Marge can be seen knitting in several episodes. She knits more ferociously when she is upset. Knitting with four fingers!
Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Magical needles knit by themselves! (In one of the books, Mrs. Weasly knits a sweater for Harry.)
Kiki's Delivery Service (Special Edition) (1989)
The nice pregnant baker woman who takes Kiki in is seen knitting garments for her baby-to-be.
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964)
Catherine D.'s mother is anxiously awaiting the birth of her grandchild and can be seen knitting some cute little pink baby clothes. She's hoping it's a girl.
The Addams Family (1991)
Morticia knits in the TV show and in both movies. In this one, she knits a little suit with 3 legs. Hee!
The Secret of Roan Inish (1994)
The grandmother is shown knitting with a lovely natural Irish yarn. She's probably making one of those beautiful traditional (and warm) cabled sweaters.
Together (2000)
While the commune pals get drunk and stoned and her husband looks at pictures of naked ladies, the uptight neighbor lady sits in bed and knits.
