Out of the Past (1947)
Not Rated
My favorite one. Jeff Bailey is drawn back into his secret past by femme fatale Jane Greer.
Double Indemnity (1944)
My introduction to film noir. It's still the first one I'd recommend.
The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)
Not Rated
Lana Turner's all legs and lipstick. Resist her if you can.
Mildred Pierce (1945)
Not Rated
A woman who would do anything for her daughter, including sacrificing herself.
Sunset Boulevard (1950)
Not Rated
Begins in a way similar to Mildred Pierce, but this one grabs you with its tale of a fallen silent star and her kept man.
Touch of Evil (1958)
Not Rated
  Incredibly sordid and beautifully filmed.
The Big Sleep (1946)
Not Rated
Bogie and Bacall. How can you miss?
The Maltese Falcon (1941)
Not Rated
Bogie couldn't be tougher than here. "You'll take it and like it."
Pickup on South Street (Criterion Collection) (1953)
Not Rated
The viewer can't help sympathize with the crook who, in the end, tries to do good. But for his own reasons.
