Superior Remakes
List creator: ALittlefield

Description: Like a lot of movie fans, I have grown tired at the sheer number of lame movie updates (Did someone say FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX?). But they aren't all bad, here's a few that I think surpass the original

His Girl Friday (1940)
12345678910
An update of THE FRONT PAGE; legend has it that director Howard Hawks was going over the script, had his secretary read the part of Hildy Johnson, and realized the role would be better if it were changed to a woman. He was right!
The Maltese Falcon (1941)
12345678910
Not Rated
Amazingly, this was the third version of Dashiel Hammet's book to be made! Once in 1931, and then again as SATAN MET A LADY in 1936. There's a reason why this version has endured.
Ocean's Eleven (2001)
12345678910
Here's the kind of remake Hollywood should do: take a mediocre film with a decent premise and make it better.
Insomnia (2002)
12345678910
By adding a subplot about an internal affairs investigation, this remake gives the main character's actions more motivation, and therefore improves on the 1997 Norwegian original.
The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
12345678910
I know the original is considered by many to be a classic, but not by me! For one thing, I never bought Sinatra as a dramatic actor, and Washington is far better. Hopefully someday I can update this list and put Peter Jackson's KING KONG on it.
