Description: These all had a big impact on me when I was a kid. Most are great, some are schlock. But I have a soft spot for them all - horror, musicals, and syrupy sweetness!

The Wizard of Oz (70th Anniversary Special Edition) (1939)
Saw this for the first time when I was 4. For years after I had a reoccurring nightmare that I was a prisoner in the Wicked Witch's castle.
The Wiz (1978)
And then there was Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Ease on down the road...
National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
One of the few happy memories of time with my stepfather. He took me to see this one summer day and I thought it was side-splittingly funny. I thought it was cool that he and I laughed at all the same jokes.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Drew Barrymore screaming. And I was so jealous that she got to hang out with all those cute boys.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Could Indie have been cooler? Or cuter??
The Shining (1980)
  Danny's not here, Mrs. Torrence
The Muppet Movie (1979)
Miss Piggy was such a bitch.
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976)
This was SUCH a scary movie to me. I didn't get it the first time I saw it - Martin Sheen as a child molester. But I knew it was bad. And Jodie Foster - I wanted to be just like her. Free of my parents and smarter than all the grown-ups around me.
Great Expectations (Criterion Collection) (1946)
Not Rated
Ms. Havisham scared the hell out of me! It was years before I got over the idea that being an unmarried woman was a fate worse than death!
The Elephant Man (1980)
I may have been too young for this movie the first time I saw it. I sobbed in the theater to my mother, "make them stop, MAKE THEM STOP!" She had to pinch me and threaten to take me home if I didn't shut up.
Coal Miner's Daughter (1980)
Loretta and Mooney's wedding night - get off me Doo, sweetin' like an ol' pig.
Halloween (25th Anniversary Edition) (1978)
Before Mike Meyers there was Michael Myers
Charlotte's Web (1973)
I never felt the same about bacon again.
Bye Bye Birdie (1963)
This film started my love affair with Ann-Margret. I wanted to be just like her - a perky, buxom redhead!. Well, I got one of my wishes...
The Red Balloon (1955)
Not Rated
Saw this at school. Forever sealed my view of the French as artsy. Even though I didn't know what that meant at the time.
Grease (1978)
My Nana took me to see it in Memphis the summer it came out. The mild sexual themes were somewhat scandalous for my proper Southern grandmother and she squirmed in her chair watching it with her 8 year old granddaughter!
Hair (1979)
The bitter irony of the ending - yeah, kid, life is really unfair...
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
Not Rated
Growing up in St. Lou-eee, Lou-eee, I couldn't help but love this one.
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978)
I had the biggest crush on Barry Gibb. Because of him I *love* men with hairy chests!!
Singin' in the Rain (1952)
How could a little kid not love dancing in the rain?
The Sound of Music (1965)
My mother used to sing Edelwiess to me when I was little. Such sweet memories.
The Little Princess (1939)
Shirley Temple - who doesn't love her? Sad little, mistreated darlin'.
Victor/Victoria (1982)
My entree in to the world of cross-dressers. And that Julie Andrews, she can sing.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
This one still makes me sigh with warmth. Even though I had bad dreams about the evil queen.
Phantasm (1979)
I first saw it at a slumber party and barely remember what it's about. But I do remember the dwarves and that sphere thingy - CREEPY!
The Blue Lagoon (1980)
Yeah, I know, this movie is REALLY bad. But it was a seminal moment in my sexual awakening even before I saw it. It was an ad in my grandparents' Reader's Digest - 2 tan, blond kids on an empty white sand beach. I was transfixed. And instantly excited. Couldn't stop touching where my bathing suit covered!
Xanadu (1980)
OK, this one's not that great either. But I still love Olivia Newton-John and roller skating.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971)
A flying f*&!ing bed - it's STILL my biggest dream!
