Memento (2000)
Changed how I thought about memory, and how me realize how often our perception of things is based upon false assumptions
Seven Beauties (1976)
Taught me that there is more to life than just surviving, and sometimes it's better cash in your chips than to continue on by dehumanizing yourself.
Gladiator (2000)
Made me realize that the Academy Awards having nothing to do with cinema.
Batman & Robin (1997)
Made me lose my faith in mainstream movies, and pretty much stop watching them for years.
La Dolce Vita (1960)
Made me see the superficiality of the whole nightlife thing, and how artificial and meaningless it all is.
Sid & Nancy (1986)
Got me into punk. Made me think being a total f-up was cool and rebellious. Scared me away from heroin
Pretty in Pink (1986)
I grew up lower-middle class in an upper-middle class area. This film spoke to me, man! And for years I tried to be Duckie.
Before Sunset (2004)
I was uber-depressed when I saw this, and it made me feel human again, to see that even Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are all confused about love. Also, I think me and Ms. Delpy should get married.
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Not Rated
Made "wacky, unbalanced crazy chick" my ideal woman for too many years. I still love them short and scrawny ladies.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Being a good person takes a lot more effort than being evil. Seriously.
Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics, Vol. 1: The Big Heat (1953)
Not Rated
To quote Gloria Grahame, "I've been rich and I've been poor, and believe me, rich is better!"
Nights of Cabiria (Criterion Collection) (1957)
Not Rated
If you are a nice person, you're gonna get screwed over and kicked in the teeth. And when that happens, you should pick yourself up and be prepared to get screwed over again.
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
I'll never a heavy metal band the same way after seeing this. Also, anytime I'm trying to explain something to someone who refuses to get it, I think of poor Nigel trying to deal with the small bread.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
When I was 16, I thought this was so punk rock, just the coolest thing ever. I saw it a few years ago and realized that Alex wasn't actually supposed to be a hero.
My Own Private Idaho (Criterion Collection) (1991)
River was my first boy-crush. This movie made me think I was gay, or at least want to be gay.
