Absolutely unconditionally recommended. Without a doubt this is the best film I've seen so far in 2007.

This list needed a great action film and I pondered a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western, but 7Sams fits the bill even better. Great action, great characters, great story. Oh yeah, and great direction too.

Yes, it's a silent film, but Louise Brooks is amazing. Like any silent, the experience will be much richer if viewed on a large screen.

I was somewhat on the fence as to whether this should make the list. I LOVE this film, but my wife is (ahem) somewhat less enthusiastic. Don't pick this one for a sure-hit Friday night "date movie", but you'll find it amazing if you're open, receptive, and in the mood for something different.

I don't know which speaks to me more, the story, the film technique, or how unfortunately timeless the issues it represents.

Brilliant thriller. Originally banned in Greece because it too closely resembled actual events there.

Wonderful "only in San Francisco" documentary with a surprising love angle. Perfect for out of town visitors - WAY better than (yet another) trip to Fishemans Wharf.

You can't go wrong with this film. Exciting and suspenseful - masterful storytelling and an overall great film. If you haven't seen it - you should.

Most rock films from the 60's are pretty embarassing to watch today. Even Woodstock earns a "sheesh - did we really talk like that?". Not so with Gimme Shelter - a compelling documentary (with a local SF angle) along with some pretty incredible performances.

Incredible ensemble performance: Brando, Malden, Steiger, Lee J. Cobb, Eva Marie Saint. Gritty and masterful direction by Elia Kazan.

Chaplin's masterpiece. I've probably seen this film 20 times - and could still watch it again. The final scene could be the greatest 60 seconds ever filmed.

Brilliant storytelling by Billy Wilder. William Holden, but Gloria Swanson gives one of the greatest film performances since pictures started talking, "I *am* big. It's the *pictures* that got small".

Well duh, it's one of the greatest films ever made. And yet it's astonishing how many people haven't seen it. Not only is it a great film, it's great entertainment - something that we film snobs sometimes overlook.

With apologies to Metropolis, THIS is Fritz Lang's masterpiece. Captivating from the very first frame. Peter Lorre gives the greatest performance of his career.
