Don't expect a literal translation

"Hit Me" is supposedly based on Jim Thompson's book "A Swell Looking Babe", and plot-wise, follows along decently. But do not expect a literal translation. All dialogue has been changed, as well as key points such as the role the bellhop's mother & father had played in his life. All mention of the mom & dad are gone, replaced by a semi-retarded brother. While films often take liberties with Thompson books (notably "The Getaway"), this is probably the least faithful in terms of the material provided by Thompson. It probably would serve the audience better for the director/write to refer this film as "influenced by Jim Thompson".

Perhaps a great movie, perhaps not... However, the commentary was among the worst I have ever listened to. I could have done better myself, and I have only seen like 2 or 3 Fassbinder's.
