I will watch Donnie Darko more than once

You have to sit through this movie all at once or do not watch it at all. If you eat dinner in front of this one, you'll ruin it. The movie is full of foreshadowing, waiting to resolve. Things do not turn out the way you might have anticipated. That is all I will say on that.

I saw this movie last week, with a friend who swore by this. It's NOT really a science fiction movie in the traditional sense. You are NEVER certain -- one way or the other if the time travel is real or all in this delusional kids head. If your idea of great science fiction movies are those with Will Smith acting, I'll give you 4-1 odds you won't like this. I love this movie!

You know it is really a poor messed up kid who does not connect with reality. You never know yourself what is real or imagined. It's SUPPOSED to confuse you on that part, I think, because that is what the kid is feeling also.

I usually do not watch drama. This is not drama, but it is sad. I was a bit caught off guard how the movie resolves -- I thought the world would have ended differently. I was in quiet tears.

I don't think I need to watch this more than once to "get" it, but I know I will jump at the chance to show it to people (or just watch it alone).

NOTE: You MUST watch the Extras afterwards. The DVD edition (and maybe the theatrical release) cut a lot of scenes, and the ending is different than the director intended. The cut ending is more disturbing (kind of like, but not quite, how the cut ending of Clerks was disturbing. BTW if you have not seen the cut ending to Clerks, rent the DVD).

Caligula - unrated version

OK, you've heard about Caligula but have never seen it.. but should you? There are folks who feel strongly about this movie (some, who have not seen it). There isn't space here to cover both a plot review and a note about the legend/controversy around Caligula. I'll skip the plot-review.

Depending where you stand you can describe Caligula as a crude MacBeth-like Shakespeare tragedy, or a depraved, high-budget porn. Shakespeare might spin in his grave at that comment, but oh well he's dead.

Adult-movie fans will not automatically like Caligula for the sex scenes because it is only part of the story (and probably not the type of sex you are used to watching). At the time of release this probably was considered a lot of sex... but today I suspect this would be closer to NC-17. There are 3 porn-style sex scenes where the camera stays with the actors until, um, they arrive but that's it for watchable consensual sex. That's not to de-emphasize the sexual or violent nature... there is an excess of extreme violence, torture, rape (female and male), assorted sexual deviancy (about 1 of each...), twisted relationships and betrayal throughout the entire movie.

Be warned... even if you can sit through other brutal movies such as American Psycho, Clockwork Orange, etc. I think you will still be provoked. The unrated version is considerably shorter, but I have not seen it and with that much cut, I am not sure you will view the monster Caligula in the same way as having watched the Unrated version.

Bastard.. OK, but not great

The movie reflects the main character, Darsh: unmet potential, rudeness, overly grandiouse, pretentious dialog (at least in the English dub), too much "fan service" and some very long, drawn-out scenes. If you are looking for a serious anime or a comedy, this aint it.

If you can get through it, there are amusing moments with "inside" anime jokes, poking fun at itself and the genre. A little more humor could have improved this one; it gets 5 stars.
2069: An awful waste of time

This is a very low budget Swedish movie; the untranslated title is "Ach jodel mir noch einen". The GC credits are wrong - the movie is made in 1974.

I can't say anything nice about this film. The cover art is deliberately misleading -- the girl and the costumes are not in the film, and neither are the the spaceships and the 3D landscapes. The title is the only thing clever about this movie, and even that doesn't live up to its promise. There are no naughty bits in this movie except the occasional boobie shot. The film itself is grainy and the audio is very poor.

If you are into "MST3K-ing" really bad movies with some friends, this has potential. Otherwise, set your expectations low.
good, but short rental

The video is good. My wife and I both drool over Bjork and she looks so so good in this video. The audio tracksare decent. Note that the video really is SHORT so if you are not a true Bjork fan, and/or are looking for a DVD full of extras you might be disappointed.
VERY short

Not necessarily bad, but it should be observed that the total running time is about 12 minutes. Therefore I would reccomend it to New Order fans only.
