Scoff if you wish. Reel in disbelief: but this is easily one of my favorite Brando films and one of my favorite Westerns Ever. In the realm of Once Upon a Time in the West. The newness! The California Coast, the dish served oh so cold, the game playing, the lying yet unstoppable truth! Brando makes us swoon for his truthfulness, his refusal to admit the false in his acting. The dedication to physical reality - physical performance! This film makes no deviation from his course. Watch Brando lie, drinking tequila with the enemy of his life; watch him throw tables across rooms without talking his eyes of his adversary, watch him kill, watch him be whipped nearly to death. Watch Brando doing exactly what made him the unmovable top of acting in his time. Plus the rest of the cast. Plus he directed it! Who could pass this up?
