GreenCine, the leading online DVD rental service for the alternative scene, believes in the betterment of life and society through the advancement of film arts. We set aside a portion of our revenues each year to award organizations that foster film making, access to cinema and movie preservation. GreenCine pays special attention and tribute to those who engage in the maverick spirit of maintaining alternative viewpoints and the expression of diversity in all forms through the medium of film.
Past recipients of GreenCine contributions in recognition of their work include the Film Arts Foundation, the Bay Area Video Coalition, Microcinema International and the San Francisco Film Society, Consolidated Works, the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, the Academic Film Archive of North America, The Hot N Dry Charity Raffle, San Francisco Zinefest and the MadCat International Women's Film Festival. As its membership grows, GreenCine will continue to promote and involve itself with selected groups and festivals around the world.
"GreenCine's donation has enabled our organization to continue its efforts to acquire and preserve academic film. While national archival and academic institutions help us tremendously by pointing us to media libraries wishing to donate films to us, they are rarely able to assist us with the significant costs in transporting the films to our collection center. GreenCine's financial assistance will help tremendously in this regard."
