GreenCine's
Video-on-Demand Submission Details
GreenCine
welcomes submissions from independent filmmakers and
distributors for our Video-on-Demand
service. We
hope this page will answer any basic questions that you may have
about the submission process and we look forward to seeing your
work.
[For more information read our VOD
FAQ and DivX
FAQ. For an incomplete list of all VOD titles currently
available on GreenCine, go

| How
do I submit my film for VOD consideration? |
|
|
- A preview
version of the film on DVD or VHS.
- If you are submitting
five or fewer films, send a copy of each film.
- If you are the license
holder/owner of more than five films, please send us two
sample movies representing your library for us to sample
review.
|
-
Please expect at least ten to fifteen business days after we receive your film(s) for us to
review. If your work passes review, we will send you a
Content License Agreement, which we recommend that
you review with a
lawyer.

If approved, how
long will it take for my film to appear on
GreenCine?
When/only if you sign the
agreement, we will begin the process of encoding your
film for On-Demand distribution. Within thirty
days, the
movie will be available on the GreenCine site for public
viewing.
How much
does this cost me?
Outside of the cost of
sending us a copy of the film, $0. Zero. Zilch.
Nada.
How often/much do I get
paid?
We pay a gross
percentage of our revenues to you - that is, a
consistent figure right off the top of every VOD rental. No clever
accounting. You will be paid once
a month as long as you've had rentals
greater than $100. Otherwise, you will be paid once a
quarter.
|
| |
How do
you determine pricing?
There is no fixed
price; the percentage is always consistent. But pricing is based
on a guess of how well the film will perform. Pricing is
made with consideration to what would be economically feasible.
|
|
Is the
contract with GreenCine exclusive?
Absolutely
not. In the same way that your film should never screen
in only one theater, exclusive arrangements ultimately
harm filmmakers. Does
this agreement extend to any other channels? Yes,
it also extends to GreenCine channels. The belief is
that On-Demand distribution will ultimately migrate to
broadband-enabled television. GreenCine is working with
various partners to that end. This is not a sub-license;
these are GreenCine-branded channels. |
|
|
The film is not
currently listed in the GreenCine catalog. Do you still
want to carry it?
Absolutely. We are
particularly interested in obscure and/or esoteric releases.
This film is only
available on VHS. Do you still want it?
Yes. Although we prefer
DVD for
encoding purposes, we will accept VHS. We can also
encode from other formats, including BetaSP, MiniDV and
so forth.
|
| |
Does a film have to
be a certain length?
We are currently seeking
films 25 minutes or longer.
The market for short films is generally free
distribution. We prefer to pay our content providers.
|
|
| What
does GreenCine do? |
 |
- GreenCine covers all
costs of encoding, hosting, credit card processing and
delivery.
- We will include your
film in the marketing of our site.
- GreenCine gets hundreds
of thousands of unique visitors every week.
- We set up avenues to
make the content seen and found. Through
affiliates, we also pursue promotional activities,
in increasing the exposure (and potential revenues)
for your film.

What else do I need
to do?
Self-promotion. If a
filmmaker wants to be successful, it makes sense to also
hit mailing lists, talk to friends, do what it takes to
spread the word and point people to your film
online.

Sounds reasonable to me.
But can I be sure I can trust GreenCine?
GreenCine's reputation in the independent film community
is very important to us. Several years into this
process, folks use GreenCine VOD because we pay them.
Some comments on what
GreenCine is doing for filmmakers in this realm can be
found in the article, "Where's
the iTunes for Movies?" and in testimonials

one.

We're not currently
accepting films outside of our normal purchasing
channels for DVD rental.
