Grumbling about the Academy's choices for Best Picture is a favorite national pasttime. Rocky over Taxi Driver? Ordinary People over Raging Bull? Dances With Wolves over Goodfellas? Ok, granted, we're Scorsese fans, but still. The point is: Mistakes were made. But once a movie is anointed Best Picture, it becomes part of film history, for better or worse, forever enshrined in the Hollywood pantheon. And, silly as it may sound, that matters.
