Though I disagree with his politics, David Brooks has written good riffs about the Cosmic Blondes and Cosmic Brunettes of the world. Though not necessarrily colored and coiffed that way in real life, the lead characters play out their roles in this series conveniently color coded. Everyone has their own virtues and shortcomings, and, after watching just the first disk, I'm queued up for more episodes of unpreachy personal growth (and smart, feisty babes). The animal-rights activist forced by family circumstanances to work at Mr. Cluck's chicken restaurant plugs the cole slaw big time before getting in trouble with the boss. Characters get inspired and changed by the decisions of others.

The characters' fantasy/emotional lives are pleasantly presented in all their healthy bloom and squalor. Well-written, well-acted, well-edited . . . I'd better change my rating to a "9."
