Long, frenetic (in all the wrong ways) and ugly to look at...this movie is just really not good. The story is not too bad, and I just kept thinking "this movie might actually have been good if the director had been better" but alas this was not to be. Oh yeah, the subtitles treat the audience like idiots.

Way better than expected.

The trailer for this movie made it look like crap. It's not. A number of scenes have Mtv-style editing that's just overdone and embarassing, but that's the only thing you have to work to ignore. This is an excellent action drama with fantastic acting all around. If you can handle the violence, watch it.

"tear...*sniff* tear...KICK his butt!!" (what was heard while I watched this movie)

I would have given this movie an 8 but it takes a bit for it to get moving. I had time to pop popcorn, pour a soda, talk to my father-in-law all while the movie was running and STILL not miss anything. Revenge is SWEET in this movie. Yes it is a knock off of 'Walking Tall', but come on.. it's a ticked off DENZEL! It's not as "super-hero cartoonish" as 'Walking Tall' either. I must say little Miss Dakota Fanning was GREAT in this! Christopher Walken was an added treat. I really like everyone's part in this movie. For a taste of sweet.. sweet revenge and all the tears that come with it, watch this one!

Revenge may be sweet, but here it's just pretentious

I have to take issue with the other reviewer: MAN ON FIRE is a piece of glossy garbage that attempts what the new "Walking Tall" accomplishes in better, more entertaining AND MUCH SHORTER fashion. ("Man on Fire" takes 2-1/2 hours to unwind, "Walking Tall just 75 minutes!) Despite some good performances, this revenge movie, trying to pass itself off as "art," is an ultra-violent, pretentious, hi-falutin' crock.

Another amazing Denzel performance

I can't say enough superlatives about this movie, it was great all around, very powerful emotionally charged acting and script, maybe the plot was slightly easy to see through, however it takes pretty much nothing away from the overall enjoyment of the movie.

Denzel deserves an oscar more for this movie than for training day in my honest opinion though he was great in both.

The little girl is played by Dakota Fanning who for a ten year old is already an amazing actress (see I am Sam if you need further proof) I cant wait to see her in more stuff she is amazing and comes across as very intelligent.

Be warned though, there is lots and lots of graphic violence in the movie so if that isn't your thing you should pass, but if you like action movies or Denzel... This is a must See!
