Synopsis
ASPECT is a biannual DVD magazine of new media art. The mission of the publication is to distribute and archive works of time-based art. Each issue highlights artists working in new or experimental media, whose works are best documented on video.

  • Anthony Discenza: Object 8242600 (Video, 9:02 minutes):
    Working mainly with material appropriated from commerical film and television, Discenza manipulates the images to uncover layers of meaning not apparent in the original context. Commentary by Marisa S. Olson, critic.

  • Carole Kim and Jesse Gilbert: Reverse House Kit (Performance installation, 12:48 minutes):
    An integrated installation, video and sound performance, RHK is a poetic interpretation of the home. Commentary by Julie Lazar, director of International Contemporary Arts Network

  • Scott Snibbe: Deep Walls (Interactive video installation, 2:09 minutes):
    Walk past this work and your shadow remains on the wall, captured for all to see. Commentary by George Fifield, curator of new media, Decordova Sculpture Park.

  • Survival Research Laboratories: E-motion (Mechanical performance, 6:00 minutes):
    SRL creates new levels of sensory and emotional intensity through large-scale mechanical performances that rival other popular cultural events. Commentary by Susan Joyce, independent curator.

  • Brent Watanabe: Thrift Store Tape #3 (Video, 7:00 minutes):
    Memories mined from footage found on discarded home videos. Commentary by Bill Arning, curator, List Visual Arts Center at MIT.
