I saw this film at a time when I idolized Dian Fossey but I had not read her autobiography. It is one of the greatest films that I know. And it was an eyeopener. I was so indigent about Fossey's death but watching this film and later reading to back up the story with fact, I learned that she was rather stupid about her activism and that anyone with a brain could see her murder coming.

Be smart about your activism! Be more creative and do NOT just act from emotion. And above all, do NOT be alone. Fossey was so terribly alone on that mountain and this film captures it so beautifully and bittersweet. And that, perhaps more than anything, was probably her undoing. We mammals need other mammals to kept us sane. This film is one of the best examples of that.

And the footage with the REAL gorillas on the REAL mountain is precious!
