Synopsis
Diabolik (John Phillip Law) is the criminal mastermind who has just pulled off a huge heist. He spends most of his free time with his girlfriend, Eva (Marisa Mell), in fond embrace. The police minister (Terry-Thomas) is approached by Valmont (Adolfo Celi), a master criminal who proposes to use his underworld connections to catch Diabolik for the police. In between their gratuitous lovemaking, he and the exotic Eva are chased by police and the mob in this plodding crime drama. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

This movie is great for people who love comic books (it's based on a European comic about a terrorist anti-hero) and the swinging 60's.

The camera set-ups are ingenious, capturing surreal notes within a comic panel canvas. The action is well-done with enough absurdity to keep you chuckling at its vim and marveling at its vigor.

The attention to costume design and scenery is amazing, making each scene a delight for the eyes. And as it is Italian, the focus on the female body is paramount (although there is eye candy for the ladies), with everyone tucked into tight, stylish, and swinging outfits.

I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys absurdity, comic books, and peeking back into an era that seemed loose and free and willing to laugh at itself.

This film is a fine example of 60's goofiness, based on a popular comic book series. I saw a rerelease/restoration years ago and had a great time.
