The original manga has a lot of humor to make its obsession over technical details (the comics are filled with footnotes) bearable, and the movies by contrast are somber, its characters staring moodily into space and quoting Shakespeare when they aren't unleashing vast amounts of ordinance at each other. The TV series here takes the best from both worlds: it's as clever, funny, and long-winded as the comics and adds a touch of the poetic artiness of the films. Great plotting, direction, voice talent ... killer production all the way round. Looking forward to the next season coming out here.

This series is well illustrated and cerebral. What it lacks in action it makes up for in clerverness. I actually perfer the series to the movies. Now if only they were all available on Green Cine!!

Not all anime is for everyone. Hopefully if you're new to anime or always wanted to try it you can find something you like in this list.
