The story is about 2 lovers, separated by lifestyle and family. Dum, a black hat wearing bandit, loves Rumpoey, a high society sweetheart, but they are torn apart by Dum's gang and Rumpoey's father, who tries to marry her off to a police officer. Dum swears he will once again be with Rumpoey, but he'll have to deal with his gang leader suspecting him of treachery and his blood brother turning into his greatest enemy, just to name a few of the obstacles in his way. Filled with blood pumping shootouts, sublimely choreographed action scenes and enough melodrama to appease even the most distinguishing Douglas Sirk fan, TEARS OF THE BLACK TIGER is without a doubt a cinematic experience you won't soon forget.
This title is only legitimately available as a DVD-R. Unfortunately, some older DVD players are unable to play this disc. If (or when) another version becomes available, we will replace all copies of the film at that time.

| I cannot begin to do justice to the cinematic artistry involved in this film, so I will just talk about the music. I don't know who the genius is who wrote this score. Wish I did. It is not a "mash-up" but a loving blend of a mad variety of styles: American folk music, Hawaiian slack string, spaghetti western, stock Hollywood schmaltz, Thai folk and popular music, European classical blended seamlessly. Brilliant. |

| i was lucky enough to see this at the seattle film festival-- the second of two showings before miramax bought it for a hansome sum, only to shelve it indefinately. critics who had seen it lauded it as a masterpiece, and i agree. ever since i saw it, it stuck with me. it is one of my favorite movies of all time. part musical, part soap opera, part western, its colors, and content are some of the most imaginative you will ever see. |
