You don't have to be a fan of John Waters films to dig this docu, but it probably helps!
Featuring some excellent archival footage of Waters doing interviews (with thouroughly disinterested interviewers), editing film, shooting his movies, etc. this docu is a fun, funny and just plain cool look into low-rent subversive cinema of the early '70s.
The only thing that put me off (and caused me to dock a point from the my rating) is the insistance of the documentary film makers to emphasize their belief that Waters films are and were made for an exclusively gay audience. While I'm sure there are gays that do enjoy his films, they certainly are not "gay films" in any way. A certainly limited view of the filmmakers, who are themselves probably of that "alternate lifestyle."
But don't let that throw you, this is well worth the price of admission and possibly even more entertaining than any of Waters films. Possibly. |
