This anime series revolves around a skeptical high school student who discovers she's sharing the same strange dream with several of her classmates. If their collective subconscious is correct, a mysterious group of lunar-based scientists are collecting data concerning the Earth for reasons unknown. Naturally, the adolescent bunch sets off to find out. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

Engaging, but too short! by MrBunBun September 18, 2003 - 5:16 AM PDT

Please Save My Earth was a popular manga series. Unfortunately, the manga only skims the very surface and shows the very first meeting of the 7 reincarnated scientists. The manga takes each person's story all the way forward by at least a few years. You get to see everyone develop, much more is revealed about their past, and the series deepens. It's a classic character and relationship driven series -- the concept may not be original but it's well done and being well done is ultimately why people enjoy entertainment.

The anime OVA however, can only get maybe 1/25th of the manga and standing alone, it suffers for it.

The OVA seems to end way too quickly and really focuses on 3 people -- the other 4 reincarnated scientists are barely background figures. The 3 main characters don't get a whole lot in the way of development and it is really a sci-fi drama without a focus on special effects and action.

And yet, I still really liked it. The music is haunting and as I am a sucker for relationship-driven shoujo anime, how could I not like this?!? Shoujo drama works by hitting you on an emotional level, and this OVA was able to resonate with me on an emotional level -- I was genuinely interested in every character and their story.

That's why I'm *so disappointed* they stopped abruptly and didn't continue with the full storyline from the manga.

This is a pretty prosaic anime -- seven alien scientists (who look remarkably human) are reincarnated on earth and meet as Japanese high school students. The students try to reconcile their memories and past feelings for each other, while one of them pursues a darker plan which involves their old space station on the moon. I couldn't get into this series. I didn't like the main character (she was too skittish and didn't seem anything like her predecessor) and the one with the dark plot was too evil without reason. This anime is based on a longer running manga and I think several plot elements could be better understood if you knew the manga. The best thing was the beautiful and haunting closing score by Yoko Kanno.
