Directed by Danny Leiner, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle follows the life-changing (and mind-altering) journey of Korean-American investment banker Harold (John Cho) and Indian-American medical-school candidate Kumar (Kal Penn). Both underdogs, Harold and Kumar decide to spend what would have been an otherwise uneventful Friday night satisfying an oddly intense urge for White Castle hamburgers. I was all set to enjoy this movie, but it turned out to be not very funny. Not even any memorable stupid lines to quote to your buddies. I wasn't high, but I don't think that would have helped much.
Instead I recommend Beavis and Butthead Do America. |

| Good movie for adolescent boys, I guess. That is, if they are not especially bright, think farts and shits are the pinnacle of funniness, are homophobic, and have never had a relationship of any kind with a woman. If you don't fit the above catagories--all of them--your might do well to skip this sloppy, unfunny, misogynistic and homophobic so-called comedy, which has been touted for its multi-ethnicity, but whose purpose seems to be to invite every culture, race and creed to join in with the most moronic aspects of American culture. I don't know which was worse, the dumb broads showing off their titties or that silly-looking thing that was supposed to be a racoon jumping into the car while the boys were driving. (Why, oh why?) If this sounds like your kind of fun, well, knock yourself out--all others, you have been warned. |

This movie was funny. Flat out. It was goofy, silly, and totally immature. What my friend likes to call "Guy Humor." If you're looking for the next Oscar contender, keep searching. But if you're looking for a movie that never takes itself too seriously, give this one a shot. Let's face it, this is a movie about two guys who get stoned and make a pact to make it to White Castle for some burgers to kill the munchies. We're not talking MacBeth here.
Be on the lookout for an appearance by Neil Patrick Harris playing himself. You'll never look at Doogie Howser the same way again. |
