| DODGEBALL is a gross-out comedy without the special charms provided by the Farrelly brothers. It has a few very funny moments, plenty of unfunny/so-so ones and some clever ideas and satire of the world we live in. But it's so unfocused and all-over-the-place that it'll finally just get on your nerves. The "alternate ending" on the dvd has received some notice, but after viewing it, I can't figure out what the fuss is all about. The alternate (which was actually the film's original ending) doesn't jibe with the rest of the generally standard set of ideas and behavior, so the studio was probably wise to insist on something else. While the director may think his finale is meaningful, as shown, it simply looks lame. See what you think, but don't expect a whole lot from either the movie or the ending(s). |
