With the theme music indellibly etched in your brain, you may remember the riotous slapstick from childhood, not always catching all the winks and nods but laughing gleefully at it nonetheless. Yes, it's the bawdy Benny Hill, the international comic star with roots in Vaudeville style, whose bread and butter was sexual innuendo but, as seen in the new set Complete and Unadulterated, also an underrated performer. The three discs capture the comedian just after he'd jumped from the BBC to the more commercial Thames Television in 1969, where he stayed for the remainder of his TV career, and these unedited shows are really the way Hill was meant to be seen, with many standout sketches among the occasional duds; best of all may be the "European Song Contest" and a "Top of the Pops" parody. Meanwhile, a bonus doc, "The World's Favorite Clown," rounds everything off here. ~ Craig Phillips, GreenCine.
