It's been three long years since the public last caught up with the cubicle-dwelling paper merchants of Wernham Hogg, and now viewers who may have wondered what became of The Office finally have a chance to see what became of their old friends. With David Brent (Ricky Gervaise) abandoning his post to release a single and sell cleaning products door-to-door, and Gareth (Mackenzie Crook) promoted to office manager, it seems as if the overzealous former right-hand-man's dreams of power have finally come true - but what of the other loyal Wernham Hogg employees? Despite having relocated to Florida, Dawn (Lucy Davis) and her fiancé Lee (Joel Beckett) agree to return to the old office to take part in a documentary about the annual end-of-the-year office bash, and it appears as if the hapless Tim (Martin Freeman) may finally be near the end of his rope. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

| Boy, did this take me by surprise. I'm a big fan of the show, and loved its corrosive humor. But, lordy, is this thing bleak. I mean jaw-droppingly bleak. I could hardly watch it. It is just unrelentingly cruel to poor David Brent. He is the world's biggest loser, yes, but jeez, give the guy a break. There's a glimmer of happiness at the end, but watch out -- this thing may depress you for a week. |
