It's often said that the true character of a man is only revealed in times of dire crisis, and for likable, lovelorn loser Shaun (Simon Pegg), that moment of reckoning came when the dead rose from their slumber to feast on the flesh of the living. A hapless electronics store employee who spends most of his spare time downing pints at the local pub with his roommate, Ed (Nick Frost), Shaun's life seems to fall apart when he is dumped by his girlfriend, Liz (Kate Ashfield), and his obnoxious stepfather, Philip (Bill Nighy), shows up to berate him for not being more attentive to his caring mother Barbara (Penelope Wilton) -- especially with her birthday rapidly approaching. Things take a turn for the worse and the dead return to stake their claim on the Earth, and though the chaos that follows threatens to swallow up all of England, it's up to Shaun to keep his cool and prove himself once and for all by successfully rescuing Liz and his mother. With his trusty roommate by his side, nothing -- not even the living dead -- can stand between Shaun and the two most important women in his life. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

I couldn't watch it by MBreslau January 6, 2012 - 5:05 AM PST

Maybe it's my fault, but I had to eject this after only ten minutes.
First, I have a hearing impairment and I could not interpret the British accents. So I went to activate subtitles. It said there we're six subtitle tracks, but refused to let me select any of them. "Not Available" indeed!

The menus were unnavigable (couldn't tell where the cursor was); the previews didn't let me skip to the next preview; etc. Annoying.

BTW, I have a top-of-the-line, new BLu-Ray player so I can't blame my equipment. Maybe I needed a British player???

Leave it to the Brits to make a romantic comedy zombie film and make it work. A horror comedy with a romantic subplot. If you like British humor, you will like this film. There is a lot of dry, subtle humor which you will miss if you don't pay attention. Very well done.

This movie has its technical acheivements that need mentioning. Watch the continuous shot as Shaun (Pegg) walks to the market on his way to work. The day before and the day and the day after the zombie invasion--continuity.

Also, this is some of the best buddy comedy around. What a team these guys make. Great timing.
