When a low-class Saiyan soldier named Bardock unexpectedly inherits the ability to see into the future, his life takes a dramatic turn for the worse! Haunted by visions of his own end as well as the destruction of his entire planet, Bardock sets off on a nightmarish race with fate to avert the impending disaster. But Bardock seems to be stumbling along in a maze of hopeless despair until a vision of his baby son, Kakarot, as a grown man inspires him to make a change and confront his destiny head on!
This is the story of Bardock, the father of Goku!

The story of Bardock gives you some nice background on the Dragonball Z saga. It pulls together all of the bits and pieces of Goku and Vegeta's past that were hinted at in the series, and puts them into an interesting story.
But what I liked most about this DVD is the bonus feature of the history of Dragonball Z. It's only 20 minutes long, so it skips around a lot, but after a brief explanation of the dragon balls it covers the story of Goku from the time we was discovered by his adopted grandfather up through Frieza's (second) destruction. It's a good way to get an overview of who Goku is, if you don't have the patience to watch the entire series (which even I will admit can get rather tedious at times).

| This is anime that didn't motivate me to get the DVDs to see it again, even with extras. Though I do continue to follow some of the series on TV, just to see how bad they can get. I am not a mecha fan so they don't even get counted. |
