couldn't even get through it.

for anyone expecting the genius of something like Azumanga Daioh, look elsewhere.

sorry this review is so short. there is very little to say. this sad piece of lame writing, 1980's-ish fashion, uninspired animation, and lackluster characters is just dead flat boring.

Don't let the box cover nor the shallow synopsis fool you, this show is the nugget-y goodness hiding in that simple candy wrapper.

The characters in Kodocha are unique, quirky, and wonderfully likeable. Having a hyperactive 11year old as the main character, I was afraid it would just be annoying and headache inducing. But that is far from the case. Yes, she talks a mile a minute, but everything that comes out is comedy gold. Despite her over the top character, she is genuinely likeable. The rest of the cast is just as good and compliments her perfectly. From her bizarre Mother to her laid back rival Akito, and even the random kids in her class& it's a great combination of unique characters that just work.

The pacing of this series often feels break-neck& much like Excel Saga. But unlike Excel, Kodocha actually has a plot, good character development, and isn't afraid to take its time with some good heartwarming moments. There is more depth to the story than the simple classroom rivalry indicated on the cover.

If you are not a purist, I recommend the dub. Sana talks so quickly, and the action can go fast at points& it is hard to get a full appreciation with the sub. The English cast does a great job, and the jokes were translated very well. The laughs are genuine and character driven, no contrived setups. If the "Sana sings" part of each episode (where Sana raps about the events of the day) doesn't leave you laughing, then you may want to check your pulse.

Feel free to watch this show with kids, but don't be surprised if you are laughing just as much (if not more) than they are. It's not fluff though, some serious topics are dealt with (hinted at in this volume, more involved in volume 2).

The bottom line: This is a fun and energetic series. It's a shot of caffeine that will have you rolling with laughter, and leave you with a smile on your face. The first disc has 4 episodes, which will give you a good flavor. But the opening song should be indication enough.

As Sana would say, it'll leave you Super Monkey Happy!

Note: Be warned that this series has 102 episodes. At the time of this review only 2 volumes (8 eps) have been released.
