Arguably one of America's most beautiful cities, San Francisco possesses a rich history behind its stunning sites. By viewing this collection of vintage film clips (created between the years of 1906 and 1940), viewers will get an inside look at how the city evolved over the first half of the 20th century and came to be what it is today. Throughout earthquakes, economic depressions, and social turmoil, San Francisco (and its inhabitants) always had a way of bouncing back. That resilience and strength can be seen in films like "Edison Newsreels: San Francisco Earthquake Aftermath," which depicts the 1906 earthquake and its damaging effects on the city. Despite the daunting ruin caused by the quake, officials never hesitate to risk their lives in an effort to save survivors. The battles of workers are captured in "The United Railroads Employees Strike," and "San Francisco Longshore Strike," while several additional films document the groundbreaking of important monuments and means of transportation such as the Oakland Bay Bridge, and the California State Highway 101.
